Taemin is the self-titled third studio album and debut Japanese studio album by South Korean singer Taemin. The album contains twelve tracks and includes Japanese versions of previously released songs by Taemin. The album was released digitally on November 5, 2018, through EMI Records and Universal Music Japan. [1] The album's physical release occurred on November 28, 2018. [2] [3] [4]

Background and release

On September 22, 2018, the official Shinee Japanese Instagram account posted a highlight medley for the upcoming Taemin album, although at that time the album was reported to be titled Eclipse. [5] It was also announced that the single "Eclipse" would be released on September 26. [5] [6]

On October 3, 2018, Taemin officially announced that he would release his first Japanese studio album on November 28, 2018. [7] The album would feature "Eclipse" as the lead single, which was first revealed during the Sirius tour. [8] A live version music video for the single was subsequently released on YouTube on November 6, 2018. [9] The second single, "Mars", was released on October 14, 2018. [10]

The song "What’s This Feeling" from the album is the theme song for the Japanese drama Final Life: Even If You Disappear Tomorrow, which Taemin starred in. [8] [11] [12] The album also includes two previously released Japanese songs, "Sayonara Hitori" and "Flame of Love". "Sayonara Hitori" was released on Taemin's Sayonara Hitori EP on July 27, 2016, [13] with a music video released earlier on July 5, 2016. [14] Similarly, "Flame of Love" was released on Taemin's Flame of Love EP on July 18, 2017, [15] with a music video released earlier on June 26, 2017. [16] In addition to this, the album contains three Japanese versions of songs that were previously released in Korean by Taemin: "Drip Drop", "Danger", and "Press Your Number". [1]

The music video for Taemin's new song "Under My Skin" was released on November 12, 2018 (November 13 JST). [17] [18] [19] On November 24, 2018, Taemin hosted a release celebration for his album on TV. [20] [21]

The album was released in three versions: a normal version, a first press limited edition, and a fan club limited edition. The first press limited edition includes a DVD with music videos and a shooting sketch video, while the fan club limited edition includes a DVD with front-row recordings of Taemin's performance at the Pacifico Yokohama National Convention Hall during his Sirius tour. He debuted as a member of the boy band Shinee in May 2008 and the supergroup SuperM in 2019, both under SM Entertainment, and has subsequently been labeled by media outlets as the "Idol's Idol". Flame of Love is the second Japanese extended play by South Korean singer Taemin under EMI Records, a division of Universal Music Japan. It was released digitally on July 3, 2017, and physically on July 18, 2017. The title track was released on June 28, 2017. Taemin performed songs from the EP at his first solo concert in Japan at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, which attracted 28,000 fans. The visual contents were co-produced by Mika Ninagawa. A deluxe edition comes with a bonus DVD with a music video for the title song, its dance version, and shooting sketch for cover artwork and music video. After the release, the album immediately ranked number one on Japan's daily albums charts, selling more than 45,000 copies.

The XTM Arena Tour, also known as TAEMIN ARENA TOUR 2019 ～X™～, was the second Japanese concert tour by South Korean singer Taemin. It commenced in Sapporo on June 8, 2019, and concluded in Chōfu on August 12, 2019. The tour spanned 17 shows across seven cities, attracting approximately 150,000 attendees.
