The Tasmanian Gaelic Football and Hurling Association (TGFHA) was established in 2007 [1] and is the ruling body for Gaelic Football and Hurling in the Australian state of Tasmania. The TGFHA is affiliated to the Gaelic Football and Hurling Association of Australasia where it is represented by a Vice-President.

Contents

The TGFHA runs weekly training and matches for both males and females in Gaelic Football at the North Chigwell Sports Ground during summer to avoid clashes with traditional winter sports such as Association Football and Australian Football. The TGFHA hopes to encourage involvement in Hurling in the future.

The TGFHA sends male and female Gaelic Football teams to interstate competitions annually. [2]

The TGFHA runs men's and women's local 7-a-side Gaelic Football competitions with the following teams.[ citation needed ] The Men play for the Keiran Middleton trophy.

Tasmanian Blitz Tournament

The TGFHA host interstate Gaelic football teams from all over Australia in the annual Tasmanian Blitz Tournament in November. [4] The men play for the Mairtin MacMathuna Memorial Trophy. [5]

CLG Na Fianna

Australian rules football in Tasmania known as "football" officially and locally, has a history dating back to the 1860s.

The Canadian GAA is responsible for Gaelic games across Canada, overseeing approximately 20 clubs. It has the same status as one of the county boards of Ireland and is one of over thirty regional GAA executive boards throughout the world. The board is responsible for Gaelic football, hurling, camogie and ladies' Gaelic football teams in Canada. The GAA sends a Canadian team to the GAA World Championships.

Erins Own GAC Lavey is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Catholic parish of Lavey, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The club is a member of the Derry GAA and currently caters for Gaelic football, hurling, camogie and ladies' Gaelic football.

The Montreal Shamrocks GAC is a sports club in Montreal, Canada, associated with the Gaelic Athletic Association in Ireland. They operate under the Canadian GAA board in the Eastern Canada division.

The Australasia County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Australasian GAA, or Gaelic Football & Hurling Association of Australasia is one of the county boards of the GAA outside Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games all across Australasia. It is also responsible for Australasian inter-state matches, primarily conducted in an annual weeklong tournament. The association is made up of the Australian state associations of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia, and the New Zealand associations of Wellington and Canterbury. A third New Zealand association - Auckland - is presently on hiatus from its membership of Australasia.

The 2016 Etihad Airways GAA World Games was a global competition of Gaelic football, hurling, and camogie run by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), featuring teams from six continents. This was the 2nd GAA World Games and the first to be played in Ireland, with the first ever tournament played in Abu Dhabi thr previous summer. The opening ceremony and throw in was held on August 6 at Croke Park, while the majority of the games were held at University College Dublin from 9 August to 11 August 2016, with the finals being played on Friday, 12 August 2016 at Croke Park.
