Tasmanitachoides is a genus of ground beetles in the family Carabidae, endemic to Australia. The beetles are very small, typically 1.5 to 3.0 mm. in length, and live in coarse sand or fine gravel along freshwater shorelines throughout Australia. [1] [2] [3]
As of 2021, there 27 described species in Tasmanitachoides, descriptions of two of them published in 2021 (T. baehri and T. erwini). Another 5 species are known but, as of 2021, have not yet been described. [1]
The species of this group has been assigned to various genera since the description of the first was published in 1895. In 1972, T. L. Erwin proposed the genus Tasmanitachoides for the group of species. In 2019, Maddison et al. used DNA sequencing and morphological data to determine the Australian genus Tasmanitachoides should be isolated with three South American genera into a new tribe, Bembidarenini. [1]
These 27 species belong to the genus Tasmanitachoides: [1] [3]
Anomotarus is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Microlestodes is a genus in the beetle family Carabidae. There are about 16 described species in Microlestodes.
Aristolebia is a genus in the beetle family Carabidae. There are more than 20 described species in Aristolebia.
Coptocarpus is a genus in the beetle family Carabidae. There are at least 20 described species in Coptocarpus, found in Australia and New Caldedonia.
Mecyclothorax is a genus of beetles that contains over 400 described species or subspecies, mostly from the Hawaiian Islands, and Tahiti and Moorea, French Polynesia. Additional radiations have evolved in Queensland, Australia, New Guinea and New Caledonia. The genus has been divided into five subgenera: Eucyclothorax Liebherr 2018 of Australia, Qecyclothorax Liebherr 2018 of Queensland, Australia, Meonochilus Liebherr & Marris, 2009 of New Zealand, Phacothorax Jeannel 1944 of New Caledonia, and the more widely distributed subgenus Mecyclothorax Sharp 1903 [in Australia, the Sundas, New Zealand, the Society Islands, and Hawaii]. The adelphotaxon to Mecyclothorax is hypothesized to consist of the genera associated with Amblytelus Blackburn, also distributed in Australia, and therefore the evolutionary history of Mecyclothorax commenced in Australia.
Altagonum is a genus of beetles in the family Carabidae, containing the following species:
Notagonum is a genus in the beetle family Carabidae. There are more than 80 described species in Notagonum.
