The Boulevard, formerly Hylan Plaza, is an open-air shopping center in the New Dorp neighborhood of Staten Island, New York City, United States. [1]
Hylan Plaza debuted in 1966 with the opening of a Fox Plaza, now United Artists Movie Theater, and a W.T. Grant department store, now Kmart. By 1968 a new Garber Brothers department store, later a Toys "R" Us/Babies "R" Us combination, and a Pathmark supermarket were added as anchors to the shopping center. Toys "R" Us closed in 2006, reopened in 2010, and closed a second time in 2017. [2]
Hylan Plaza went through a major renovation in 2003 which included an expansion and complete remodeling of Pathmark, new grass and tree planted medians, new lampposts, and the closing of several secondary driveways and the causeway to travel between both the main (Hylan Boulevard) and Mill Road parking lots.
Throughout 2015–2017, the tenants closed and or moved in preparation for a new replacement shopping center, named The Boulevard. This center began reopening in 2021 with a ShopRite supermarket. Other tenants opened in 2021 include Marshalls, Old Navy, LA Fitness, and Burlington. [3]
New Dorp is a neighborhood on the South Shore of Staten Island, New York City, United States. New Dorp is bounded by Mill Road on the southeast, Tysens Lane on the southwest, Amboy and Richmond Roads on the northwest, and Bancroft Avenue on the northeast. It is adjacent to Oakwood to the southwest, Todt Hill to the northwest, Dongan Hills and Grant City, and Midland Beach and Miller Field to the southeast. New Dorp Beach, bordering to the east, is often listed on maps as a separate neighborhood from Mill Road to the shore of Lower New York Bay, but is generally considered to be a part of New Dorp.
The South Shore is a geographical term applied to the area in the New York City borough of Staten Island, south and east of the island's ridge of hills along the waterfront and adjacent areas from the Narrows to the mouth of the Arthur Kill. Many observers prefer to restrict its scope to the neighborhoods located between the shoreline of Raritan Bay on one side and Richmond Creek and Fresh Kills on the other, thus encompassing the neighborhoods of Great Kills to Tottenville only. Those who use this narrower definition of the "South Shore" prefer the term "East Shore" for the communities that lie along Lower New York Bay, and inland for approximately 2 to 2+1⁄2 miles, from Bay Terrace and Richmondtown to as far north as Grasmere and Concord. The South Shore is represented in the New York City Council by Joe Borelli.
Staten Island Mall is a shopping mall in New Springville, Staten Island, New York City, opened in 1973. It is the only indoor shopping mall in the borough. It is the largest retail center on the island and is the site of the island's third-largest public transit hub after the St. George Terminal and Eltingville Transit Center, with numerous bus routes that connect to the periphery of the mall area. It is the second largest shopping center in New York City. The mall features Primark, JCPenney, and Macy's, in addition to an 11-screen dine-in AMC Theatres.

Opened in 1956 as an open-air shopping center called Mid-Island Shopping Plaza, it is currently a regional enclosed shopping center comprising 98 stores, as well as a food court and movie theater. Ashley Landing is a shopping center in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. It was the first indoor shopping mall in the West Ashley area of Charleston when the complex was fully completed in 1972. The center, located at 1401 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard at the fork of Old Towne Road was developed by Gate City Realty Company of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Ground was broken for the complex in 1962 with Ashley Plaza opening on April 16, 1964. At its opening the shopping center consisted of J.M. Fields Department Stores joined to a Pantry Pride supermarket, built at a cost of $1.75 million and owned by Sumar Corporation of South Carolina. The locally owned Condon's Department Store, constructed adjacent to Pantry Pride as a freestanding building, became the third tenant when it opened in 1970. The center, originally known as "Ashley Plaza" was noted for its large red and white neon pylon "Ashley Plaza" sign in the center of the parking lot that remained until 1989 when it was destroyed by Hurricane Hugo.
Hylan Boulevard is a major northeast-southwest boulevard in the New York City borough of Staten Island, and the longest street in a single borough in the city. It is approximately 14 miles (23 km) long, and runs from the North Shore neighborhood of Rosebank, then along the entire East Shore, to the South Shore neighborhood of Tottenville. It was renamed in 1923 for New York City mayor John F. Hylan, before which it was known as Southfield Boulevard and the northern segment as Pennsylvania Avenue.

Old Town was established in August 1661 as part of New Netherland, and was the first permanent European settlement on Staten Island.
