The Great Kiwi Bake Off Celebrity Special is a series of special Christmas-themed episodes of The Great Kiwi Bake Off that aired between 23 December 2019 and 22 December 2022. Each episode features six celebrities competing in two Bake Off challenges. For the 2019 edition, the winner won NZ$30,000 for the charity of their choice. [1] [2]

In this Celebrity edition, the prize money totalled NZ$61,000. The celebrity bakers competed in honour of their chosen charity. At the start of the competition, each baker received NZ$2,000 for their charity.

For the technical challenge set by Sue, the celebrity bakers had one hour and forty-five minutes to bake 12 sweet ginger kisses. The winner of the technical would receive NZ$10,000.

For the showstopper challenge, the celebrity bakers had to bake a 3-D biscuit scene based on a Christmas memory in three hours. While no prize was directly awarded for the showstopper challenge, the celebrity bakers could also win spot prizes for creativity and other novelty awards.

Jackie won the overall competition and won NZ$30,000.

For the technical challenge set by Sue, the celebrity bakers had one and a half hours to bake 12 festive cupcake snow people. The winner of the technical would receive NZ$10,000.

For the showstopper challenge, the celebrity bakers had to bake a Christmas-themed selfie cake in three hours. The winner of the showstopper would receive NZ$20,000. While no prize was directly awarded for the showstopper challenge, the celebrity bakers could also win spot prizes for creativity and other novelty awards.

Rebekah Randell won the technical challenge, and won a total of NZ$12,500 for her charity.

This programme screened on Tuesday, 20 December 2022. The prize money totalled NZ$25,000. At the start of the competition, each celebrity baker received NZ$1,000 for their charity.

For the technical challenge set by Peter, the celebrity bakers had one and a half hours to bake Christmas muffins, made according to his recipe. The winner of the technical challenge would receive NZ$7,000.

For the showstopper challenge, the celebrity bakers had to bake a Christmas scene, with at least 50% of it containing meringue, in three hours. The winner of the showstopper would receive NZ$12,000.

David Correos won the technical challenge and won a total of NZ$8,000 for his charity.

Siouxsie Wiles was awarded star baker and won a total of NZ$13,000 for her charity.

The first series of The Great British Bake Off first aired on BBC Two on 17 August 2010. Ten home bakers took part in a bake-off to test their baking skills as they battled to be designated the best amateur baker. Each week the programme bakers participated in three challenges in a particular discipline, with some being eliminated at the end of each episode. The first three episodes were extended to 90 minutes instead of the usual 75 minutes. The bakers were announced on 15 September 2020.

After a COVID-19 pandemic enforced break in 2020, the third season of The Great Kiwi Bake Off was filmed in 2021 at Parihoa Farm in Muriwai instead of the usual location, South Auckland’s Puketutu Island Estate. This season premiered on 14 October 2021 on TVNZ 1 with Sproull, Sami, Brettschneider and Fleischl returning in their respective roles.

The fourth season of The Great Kiwi Bake Off return to Parihoa Farm in Muriwai, Auckland. This season premiered on Thursday 25 August at 7.30pm on TVNZ 1 and streams on TVNZ+; with Comedian Pax Assadi who joined Hayley Sproull as co-host and chef, restaurateur, writer, and food consultant Peter Gordon, alongside Jordan Rondel, an author and co-founder of international cakery The Caker took over the judging roles.

The thirteenth series of The Great British Bake Off began on 13 September 2022. It is again presented by Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas and judged by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. The bakers competing in the series were announced on 2 September 2022. The series was filmed at Welford Park, an estate near Newbury, Berkshire which was previously used for the programme from 2014 to 2019.

The fourteenth series of The Great British Bake Off began on 26 September 2023. In December 2022, Matt Lucas announced his departure from the show after three series as a co-presenter. In March 2023, Alison Hammond was announced as his replacement and joined Noel Fielding as co-host. Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith returned to judge the series. The bakers competing in the series were announced on 18 September 2023.

The fifth season of The Great Kiwi Bake Off return to Parihoa Farm in Muriwai, Auckland. This season premiered on Thursday 25 January 2024 at 7.30pm on TVNZ 1 and streams on TVNZ+. As with the previous season, it was hosted by comedians Pax Assadi and Hayley Sproull, with the judges being Peter Gordon, Jordan Rondel, and - for episode 3 - New Zealand TV chef and restaurateur Michael Van de Elzen.
