The Hub, also known as 333 Schermerhorn Street, is a 610-foot, 55-floor skyscraper in the Downtown Brooklyn neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. [1] [2] [3] The building contains 754 apartments, four high-rise elevators and three mid-rise elevators. [4]
The Hub was the tallest building in Brooklyn when it topped out in December 2015, [5] passing previous record-holder, AVA DoBro, until it was passed in turn by Brooklyn Point, within the City Point complex, in April 2019. [6]
A skyscraper is a tall continuously habitable building having multiple floors. Modern sources define skyscrapers as being at least 100 meters (330 ft) or 150 meters (490 ft) in height, though there is no universally accepted definition, other than being very tall high-rise buildings. Historically, the term first referred to buildings with between 10 and 20 stories when these types of buildings began to be constructed in the 1880s. Skyscrapers may host offices, hotels, residential spaces, and retail spaces.
The building form most closely associated with New York City is the skyscraper, which has shifted many commercial and residential districts from low-rise to high-rise. Surrounded mostly by water, the city has amassed one of the largest and most varied collection of skyscrapers in the world.
Rufino Pacific Tower or more commonly known as Rufino Tower or Rufino Plaza is an office skyscraper and is one of the tallest buildings in the Philippines and tallest buildings in Metro Manila. It remains as the tallest steel-framed building in the country. It has a ground to architectural top height of 161 metres (528 ft), one of three ways of determining building heights according to Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. Counting its eight-storey radio tower, the building has a total height of 200 metres (660 ft). It has a total of 41 stories above ground level, including a 10 storey podium which is actually the original building, the old V.A. Rufino Building, and was modified to be the podium of the new tower. It is one of the few skyscrapers that utilizes car elevators.
388 Bridge Street is a 590-foot residential high-rise skyscraper in Downtown Brooklyn, within New York City. It contains 378 market rate units, mixed between 234 rentals and 144 condominiums. The building was originally under construction as an all condominium tower before the 2000s real estate crash and subsequent Great Recession. Construction halted from 2008 to 2012 due to the recession, but resumed in 2013.
AVA DoBro, also known as Avalon Willoughby West and by its address of 100 Willoughby, is a residential high-rise building in Downtown Brooklyn, New York City. Developed by AvalonBay Communities, it has 826 units over 57 floors. As part of the development, a new entrance to the Jay Street–MetroTech station of the New York City Subway was built, including an elevator.
