Magina Thilan Thushara Mirando;(born 1 March 1981),or Thilan Thushara,is a former Sri Lankan cricketer,who played all formats of the game. He is a left-handed batsman and a left-arm medium-fast bowler. Though he did not represent the country in international level after 2010,Thushara is an active member in Sri Lanka domestic competitions for Moors Sports Club.
Thushara made his first-class debut in 1998–99. After a spell in Sri Lanka's premier fast-bowling academy,he impressed the selectors,and was included in the Test squad for the tour against South Africa. He made his Twenty20 debut on 17 August 2004,for Nondescripts Cricket Club in the 2004 SLC Twenty20 Tournament. [1]
He had a grand playing style in 2006/2007 First Class series in Kandurata Maroons which was held in Sri Lanka between its provinces.
He also be played few games for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League after being bought for $140000 at the IPL Auction on 6 February 2009. [2]
He also played for 2016 Super Twenty20 Provincial Tournament for Hambantota Troopers.
He did not play in that series but then made his Test debut in 2003 in the touring party to West Indies. But he did not succeed much in that series as he did not score much and did not pick up any wicket and was dumped by the wayside.
He was finally chosen to play against West Indies on their 2008 tour. This time,he snapped up five wickets on his return to international cricket,and then managed three in the next match,to end the series with eight. He also took a wicket with his very first ball in his ODI career becoming the 18th bowler to achieve that mark and was also the third Sri Lankan bowler to achieve this feat. [3]
On the same tour,he finally managed to make his ODI debut as well,in an inconsequential third ODI,and was pretty impressive in his near six over spell,with analysis of 5.2–1–12–1,before it rained and the match was abandoned.
His best ODI performance came against India in Sri Lanka during an ODI series. He took 10 wickets with the bowl including career best 5/47 at RPSC and scored 168 runs at 56 including his career best score of 54* at the same venue during the series.
He and Nuwan Kulasekara have been able to fill the void created by retirement of Chaminda Vaas and injured Lasith Malinga during 2008–2010 period.
For his performances in 2009,he was named as 12th man in the World ODI XI by the ICC. [4]
Thushara was selected to play tri nation ODI series in Zimbabwe in 2010 and he got his 50th ODI wicket during his last ODI match. His 50th ODI wicket was Hamilton Masakadza.
Kulasekara Mudiyanselage Dinesh Nuwan Kulasekara is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who played all formats of the game. He was educated at Bandaranayake College Gampaha
Mohamed Farveez Maharoof,or Farveez Maharoof,is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer,who played Tests and ODIs. He first made his impression in the 2004 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in which he captained the Sri Lankan team. He enjoyed a prolific school career for Wesley College,with a highest score of 243 and best bowling figures of 8 for 20. An all-rounder,he made his Test debut in 2004. He was part of the Sri Lankan team which finished as runners-up at the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
Herath Mudiyanselage Rangana Keerthi Bandara Herath,known as Rangana Herath,is a former Sri Lankan cricketer,who played all forms of cricket game and a former Test cricket captain for Sri Lanka. Considered as one of the best spinners to ever play the game,Herath is the most successful left arm bowler in Test cricket history. Herath was a member of the Sri Lankan team that won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20.
Ottis Delroy Gibson is a cricket coach and former cricketer from Barbados,who played for the West Indies. From 2010 to 2014,Gibson was the head coach for the West Indies,where he led the team to be champions of the 2012 T20 World Cup. He has been appointed as Bangladesh bowling head coach and previously twice worked as bowling coach for England,from 2007 to 2010 and again from 2015 to 2017. Gibson also coached the South African cricket team from 2017 to 2019. He was the pace bowling coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team and Multan Sultans. In January 2022 Gibson was appointed the head coach of Yorkshire County Cricket Club,he is set to join the team after the conclusion of the 2022 Pakistan Super League season.
Kaushalya Weeraratne also known as Kaushal Weeraratne is a former Sri Lankan international cricketer. After starting his international career as a bowler,he later moved up the order to become an all-rounder,batting in the middle order and bowling medium-fast. He is regarded as one of the players to have been included in the lost generation of Sri Lanka cricket according to Lasith Malinga,an elite list which include players who have performed consistently in domestic circuit for over ten years but had to toil hard to play in international cricket due to the presence of frontline players. Weeraratne once took 4 wickets in 5 balls in an Eastern Cricket Association Veterans game,which he described as his greatest ever bowling performance,given the quality of the opposition.
Kemar Andre Jamal Roach is a Barbadian international cricketer who plays for the West Indies in Test and One Day Internationals. As a 5-foot-8-inch (1.73 m) pacer,Roach initially reached speeds of over 90 mph on regular occasions. After some time he adapted his bowling style,due to injuries and diminshed pace,to encourage augmented swing and movement of the ball. He triumphantly claimed the BBL02 title with the Brisbane Heat and was an essential part of the Surrey side which eventually won the 2022 County Championship title. During 2012 he became the first West Indies bowler to take 10 wickets in a Test since 2005. Roach has since picked up over 250 wickets in Tests and over 100 ODI wickets for the Windies. He has also featured for Barbados,Deccan Chargers,Worcestershire along with CPL teams Antigua Hawksbills,St Lucia Zouks and Jamaica Tallawahs in his cricketing career. Roach made history for the West Indies as he was the first West Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in a Cricket World Cup,which he did against the Netherlands during the 2011 tournament.
Timothy Grant Southee,is a New Zealand international cricketer who has captained New Zealand cricket team in all formats of the game. He is a right-arm medium-fast bowler and a hard-hitting lower order batsman. The third New Zealand bowler to take 300 Test wickets,he was one of the country's youngest cricketers,debuting at the age of 19 in February 2008. On his Test debut against England he took 5 wickets and made 77 off 40 balls in the second innings. He plays for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield,Ford Trophy and Super Smash as well as Northland in the Hawke Cup. He was named as New Zealand's captain for the first T20I against West Indies in place of Kane Williamson,who was rested for that game. The Blackcaps won that match by 47 runs. Southee was a member of the New Zealand team that won the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship. Southee currently has the highest (international) test batting strike rate among the batsmen with a minimum of 2000 test runs. His (batting) career strike rate is 83.12. He was also a part of the New Zealand squads to finish as runners-up in two Cricket World Cup finals in 2015 and 2019.
