Thomas "Thom" Russois an American record producer, composer, mixer and songwriter. [1] His works range from Anglo-American pop/rock to Alternative Latin. [1] He is a recipient of 16 Grammy awards. [2]

Life and education

Thom Russo was born in Cleveland, Ohio. [3] [4] He studied composition, music theory, and electronic music at Northwestern University, in Evanston, Illinois. [2] He lives and works in Los Angeles. [5]

Career

Russo started his professional career as a musician [2] [5] but became interested in music production, composing, engineering and recording as a college student at Northwestern University Conservatory of Music. [2] He first worked at River North Studios in Chicago mentoring under many prolific composers and arrangers in the advertising industry, and then moved on to Larrabee Sound, one of the largest and most famous recording studios in Los Angeles, and later on his own under the Nettwerk Producer Management. [2]

As one of the first projects at Larrabee, Russo produced vocals for Michael Jackson's album Dangerous, [2] Bobby Brown's album Bobby, Cher's Greatest Hits 1965–1992 , Diana Ross's Take Me Higher and Paula Abdul's Head Over Heels . [1] [6]

That early work laid foundation for Russo's later career. Over the years he has worked with a variety of well-known musicians, in addition to the ones named above,

Since 2000, Russo has been involved in Latin rock and pop music and has worked with Juanes, Mana, and other legendary Latin artists from Latin America, Central America, and Spain. [1]

Russo's mixing techniques include the commonly used audio filtering with different microphones and equalizers, reduction and amplification by DRC, sound fading, and a range of more unconventional approaches. [7] He adapts his methods to accentuate the idiosyncratic features in the music he records, [7] citing the record producer and colleague Rick Rubin as one of the main professional influences. [5]

The Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year is an honor presented annually at the Latin Grammy Awards, a ceremony that recognizes excellence and creates a wider awareness of cultural diversity and contributions of Latin recording artists in the United States and internationally.The award is given to the performers, producers, audio engineers and mastering engineers for vocal or instrumental albums with 51 percent of new recorded songs. Albums of previously released recordings, such as reissues, compilations of old recordings and greatest hits albums packages are not eligible.Due to the increasing musical changes in the industry, from 2012 the category includes 10 nominees, according to a restructuration made by the academy for the four general categories: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist and Album of the Year.Beginning in 2018, songwriters are eligible for the accolade if 33% of the playing time are composed by them.

Aníbal Kerpel is an Argentine producer, engineer and mixer. Member of the progressive rock band Crucis, he began a successful career as a producer after the split of the band, working with artists such as Los Prisioneros, Café Tacvba, Divididos, Molotov, Gustavo Santaolalla, Bersuit Vergarabat, Juanes and Árbol, among others. During his career he has received a Grammy Award and over ten Latin Grammy Awards.
