Timothy P. Briggs (born January 3,1970) is an American lawyer who serves as a Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives,representing the 149th District since 2009.
Tim Briggs was born in Norristown,Pennsylvania,to Joseph and Terese Briggs. [2] He graduated from Crystal Lake South High School in Illinois in 1988. [2] He then attended West Chester University of Pennsylvania,where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1992. [3] He also minored in geography and international relations. [4]
Briggs served as an advisor to Congressman Joe Hoeffel and state Senator Constance H. Williams and was the Political Director of The Bonner Group,a Washington,D.C.–based progressive non-profit and Democratic political fundraising firm. [3] For several years,he served as a volunteer firefighter and sat on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters in Montgomery County. [3] He received a Juris Doctor degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2004. [2] He became an associate with the law firm Hamburg,Rubin,Mullin,Maxwell &Lupin in 2008. [4] and is currently of-counsel at Kilkenny Law,LLC.
In 2008,after Democratic incumbent Daylin Leach decided to run for the Pennsylvania State Senate,Briggs successfully ran for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in the 149th District. He defeated Republican Lynne Lechter,a King of Prussia lawyer,by a margin of 62–38%. [5] He was re-elected to a second term in 2010,defeating Bridgeport councilman Peter Kohut by 62–37%. [6] He was re-elected to a third term against Republican Perry Hamilton by a margin of 66% to 34%. [7] In November 2016,he ran against Republican nominee Chira Smith and was overwhelmingly re-elected to a fifth term.
Briggs currently serves as the Democratic chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and serves on many House caucuses including serving as the Democratic chair of the Arts &Culture Caucus and the Bio Technology/Life Sciences Caucus,and is the chairman of the Brain injury Caucus. He serves on the board of governors for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education,a commissioner on the Pennsylvania Commission Crime and Delinquency and vice chairman of the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board. [8] He has focused on issues concerning education,children,and the environment. [3]
Thomas Timothy Holden is an American politician from Pennsylvania who served as a Democratic U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 17th congressional district from 1993 to 2013. Holden was the dean of the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation during the 112th United States Congress. On April 24,2012,Holden was defeated in the Democratic primary in his attempt to seek re-election after the boundaries of his district were redrawn. He is now chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
Timothy Francis Murphy is an American former politician and psychologist who served as the U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district from 2003 until his resignation in 2017. The district included several suburbs south of Pittsburgh. A member of the Republican Party,he also represented the 37th Senate district in the Pennsylvania State Senate from 1996 to 2003. Murphy consistently carried the 18th district with at least 58% of the vote,including unopposed re-election bids in 2014 and 2016.
Timothy Markham Sheldon is an American farmer,businessman,and politician who served as a member of the Washington State Senate,representing the 35th District between 1997 and 2023. The district includes all of Mason County and parts of Thurston and Kitsap counties. A member of the Democratic Party,Sheldon caucused with the Republican-dominated Majority Coalition Caucus and afterwards the Republican Caucus from 2012. The 2022 United States Senate elections were held on November 8,2022,concurrently with other midterm elections at the federal,state,and local levels. Regularly scheduled elections were held for 34 of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate,the winners of which will serve 6-year terms beginning with the 118th United States Congress. 2 special elections were held to complete unexpired terms. While pundits considered the Republican Party a slight favorite to gain control of the Senate,the Democrats outperformed expectations and expanded the majority they had held since 2021,gaining a seat for a functioning 51–49 majority.
The 2018 United States House of Representatives elections in Oklahoma were held on November 6,2018,to elect the five U.S. representatives from the state of Oklahoma,one from each of the state's five congressional districts. Primary elections were held on June 26 and runoff elections were held two months later on August 28. The state's U.S. House delegation Republican majority changed from 5–0 to 4–1.
