    The Philadelphia Inquirer awarded Khan its Influencers of Healthcare Award for Excellence in Volunteerism in 2019. [38]

    Khan won the American Association of Nurse Practitioner's State Award for Nursing Advocacy for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2019. [39]

    A resolution on April 29, 2021, sponsored by 11 Philadelphia City Council Members, was adopted, "recognizing Tarik Khan's incredible leadership and contributions to the health and well-being of Philadelphians and extending appreciation and admiration for his efforts to vaccinate Philadelphia residents against COVID-19." [40]

    The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities Awarded Khan and disability rights advocate Anna Perng its Outstanding National Advocate Award in August 2021 for their advocacy for persons with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. [41]

    Khan and Anna Perng were both awarded the City of Philadelphia's Chief Service Officer Award, which recognizes "unique contributions to the city through collaborative service" in April 2022. [42]

    Khan was awarded the 2022 American Association of Nurse Practitioner's State Award for Clinical Excellence as a Nurse Practitioner for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. [39]

    Khan received the "Pandemic Warrior Award" for his clinical care during the pandemic from The Family Practice and Counseling Network in January 2023. [43]

    Khan received the "Thomas J. Zuber Memorial Patient Safety Award" by SEIU Nurse Alliance of Pennsylvania in October 2023.

    City & State Pennsylvania listed Khan as #8 in its Top 100 AAPI difference makers in PA in May 2023. [44]

He was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania in 2022, finishing in second place behind Austin Davis with 25% of the vote. Since leaving public office in 2022, Sims has served as the Managing Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Out Leadership. In 2023, he joined the Board of Trustees of the Tyler Clementi Foundation.

    Travel health nursing is a nursing specialty which promotes the health and safety of national and international travelers. Similar to travel medicine, it is an interdisciplinary practice which draws from the knowledge bases of vaccines, epidemiology, tropical medicine, public health, and health education. Travel nursing has experienced an increase in global demand due to the evolution of travel medicine. Travel health nursing was recognized during the 1980s as an emerging occupation to meet the needs of the traveling public, and additional education and training was established. Travel health nurses typically work in "private practice, hospital outpatient units, universities, the government, and the military", and have more opportunities and leadership roles as travel has become more common. However, they also experience organizational and support-related conflicts with general practitioners and patients in healthcare settings.
