The counties of Southern Maryland. According to the state of Maryland, the region includes all of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's counties (red) and the southern portions of Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties (light red) [1]

1600-1649

Witchcraft trials occurred in Maryland during the late 1600s. While Rebecca Fowler was the only person ever executed for such a crime, this is also the time that supposedly the mythical Moll Dyer died on top of a rock in St. Mary's County. Moll Dyer's Rock.jpg

1650-1699

18th century

The 18th century saw religious persecution of Catholics in Southern Maryland, and a weakening of regional power following the moving of the state capital to Annapolis.
