Tipton County is a county located on the western end of the U.S. state of Tennessee, in the Mississippi Delta region. As of the 2010 census, the population was 61,081. Its county seat is Covington.

John Tipton was from Tennessee and became a farmer in Indiana; a veteran officer of the War of 1812, in which he reached the rank of Brigadier General; and politician. He was elected to the state House and in 1831 as US Senator from the state of Indiana, serving until 1838. He was appointed as US Indian Agent and was selected to lead the militia in removing Menominee's band of Potawatomie in 1838; they were relocated to Kansas, Indian Territory.

With a summit elevation of 7,153 feet (2,180 m), it is the tallest mountain in the Cerbat Mountains which border Kingman on the north, and is the high point of the Mount Tipton Wilderness which comprises the entirety of the northern portion of the Cerbat Mountains. The community of Dolan Springs lies west at the base of Mount Tipton at the northwest side of the Cerbat Range.
