Three years after leaving the programme, she began a singing career with her cover of Ednaswap's song "Torn" which was a worldwide hit, and became one of the UK's top best selling single in 1997 as well as one of the longest charting number one song on the US Billboard Radio Songs Chart in 1998. Her debut album, Left of the Middle (1997) was a commercial success, certified multi-platinum in the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia, and sold seven million copies worldwide, which furthermore secured her eight ARIA Awards, two Brit Awards, one Billboard Music Award, and three Grammy nominations between 1998 - 1999. Subsequent releases, including White Lilies Island (2001) and Counting Down the Days (2005) did not match commercial success of her debut, but both albums still got gold certification in the UK. As of 2021, Imbruglia has released six studio albums and has sold more than ten million copies worldwide.

The Saturdays are an English-Irish girl group based in London, England. The group formed during the summer of 2007 and has been on hiatus since 2014. The lineup consists of Frankie Bridge, Una Healy, Rochelle Humes, Mollie King, and Vanessa White. They were formed through Fascination Records, a sub-division of Polydor Records, which gave them an instant record deal with the label. As soon as the contract was finalized, the Saturdays went on tour with Girls Aloud during their Tangled Up Tour. The group's music style is pop, but throughout their career, their management has experimented with dance-pop and electropop. Songwriters and producers Ina Wroldsen, Steve Mac, Camille Purcell, and Quiz & Larossi have helped create their music. In July 2008, The Saturdays released their debut single and first Top Ten hit, "If This Is Love". Their debut album, Chasing Lights, released the same year, charted at number nine on the UK Albums Chart; it was certified platinum by the BPI and produced three more top ten singles: "Up", "Issues", and "Just Can't Get Enough". Scherzinger had been working on a solo album since 2005, under the title Her Name Is Nicole and was originally due for release in 2007. However, unsuccessful singles and poor timing led the project being pushed back numerous times. After releasing The Pussycat Dolls' second studio album Doll Domination (2008), Scherzinger shelved the project entirely citing bad timing and creative issues as the reasons for its cancellation. Many of its songs were reassigned to the Dolls or other artists. In 2010, Moroccan producer RedOne was brought on board for a second attempt at launching her solo album.

Inspiration for the song came primarily from a humanitarian trip to Madagascar that Perry made in partnership with UNICEF. The album is Andre's second swing album following the release of Big Night in 2014, however, unlike Big Night, the album consists mostly of covers of Rat Pack classics, as well as three original songs and a swing version of his former hit "Mysterious Girl".
