União Desportivo de Picos (Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: Union Pikus) is a football (soccer) club that plays in the Santiago Island League North Zone in Cape Verde. The team is based in the town of Picos in the interior of the island of Santiago and is the club of the municipality of São Salvador do Mundo. They have a small field which is used for practices, its matches are played at Estádio de Cumbém in Assomada. It is one of several clubs that never won a regional title as well as five of the original fifteen.

The Alfabeto Unificado para a Escrita do Caboverdiano, commonly known as ALUPEC, is the alphabet that was officially recognized by the Cape Verdean government to write Cape Verdean Creole.

Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

Picos, also known as Achada Igreja, is a city in the central part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. It is the seat of São Salvador do Mundo municipality. Picos is located 4 km southeast of Assomada and 23 km northwest of the capital city of Praia, near the national road from Praia to Tarrafal via Assomada (EN1-ST01).

History

In recent years, the club finished 12th in the 2014-15 season with 10 points and had 3 wins and a draw, they scored 13 goals and conceded the most in the first phase with 26 goals. Their worst match was on February 28 where they lost to Calheta de São Miguel 6-1. It was the last time they finished unrelegated as the regional competition for the 2015-16 season became two tiers. The following season was their chance for some new regional records, their chance was lost as they finished 11th with 26 points and had 7 wins and 5 draws, they conceded 44 goals, the same with 7th place AJAC and was the fourth most, it was in the position where they played a division decisional match with 2nd placed AEF Chão Bom. The club finished with a total goals to remain in the Premier Division for one more time. Their successess were slim for the 2016-17 season, their first match was a draw with Desportivo Santa Cruz and started 8th. União Picos lost the next two matches to two Tarrafal clubs, Varandinha and Estrela dos Amadores. At the fourth round, they made their second draw with Juventus Assomada and their position was 10th. Their successes was lost and was inside the relegation zone from the 6th round as they were 11th, they were 12th and 11th round for some rounds, they were last place from the 17th round for the remainder of the season. At the season's final match, they made the season's only win as they defeated Calheta de São Miguel 2-1 on 6 May and was the last club in the nation at the regionals without any win. Also 13 goals were scored in both seasons totalling 26. The club became the fourth and recent club to be relegated into the Second Division, where they are participating in the 2017-18 season. Before their relegation, União Picos were the ten unrelegated original clubs of the Premier Division.

Grupo Desportivo Varandinha is a football (soccer) club that plays in the Santiago Island League North Zone in Cape Verde. The team is based in the town of Tarrafal in the northern part of the island of Santiago in Cape Verde. Since the implementation of the two tier regional system in 2015, Varandinha are one of ten unrelegated clubs of northern Santiago. Its current head coach is Badau.

União Picos began the 2017-18 Second Division with three straight wins before a 1-2 loss to Santa Cruz. Their last match, a two goal draw with Juventude, a club once known as Real Júnior. The club is currently fiffh, they have a chance of returning into the Premier Division next season.
