Grupo Desportivo Recreativo São Lourenço dos Órgãos is a football (soccer) club that plays in the Santiago Island League North Zone of the Grupo Centro Sul in Cape Verde. The team is based in the town of São Lourenço dos Órgãos in the southeastern part of the island of São Lourenço in which is also the island's second largest community. Prior to 2006, the team was playing in the second level competition. It entered into the level and became the Centro Sul group. The team never won any titles in the insular league and not the second level.

Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

History

The club was founded in 1966. The club recently has celebrated its 50th year of foundation in 2016.

The club has recently been relegated during the enlarged 2015-16 season and has appeared in the regional second division in the 2016-17 season. Their participation unlike the other first two clubs that were relegated were brief and finished at the top position in that division, first place and became champions and returned to the Premier Division in the following season. Their season's first match was a 2-5 win over Benfica Santa Cruz, they were first place for the next three rounds, recently on December 10, the club lost to Grémio Nhagar 1-3 and their positions slipped to second. A 4-1 loss to Estrela dos Amadores was followed in Tarrafal, later their positions sagged down to eight at the 8th round. Their success was they scored 15 goals, the most in the region, also they had the worst as they conceded 14 goals. Two more wins came for the club and their positions steadily risen, on February 21, a goal draw with Varandinha was made. São Lourenço made a 3-1 win over AJAC, the previous season's champions and struggled for a championship title as they were third place with 19 points and had 24 goals scored, the most on the island. Also they had five wins, also shared with four other clubs, Scorpion Vermelho, Flor Jovem, Grémio Nhagar and Estrelas dos Amadores. A loss was followed on March 3 before a 3-1 win over Estrela dos Amadores, their position dropped to fourth but has a chance for a championship title as they had 22 points, only two less than first placed Scorpion Vermelho. Another loss the club suffered, this one to Scorpion Vermelho, with only three matches to go, a part of their chance for a championship title faded. Though, they are the master in goal scoring with 28. Two more losses the club suffered on March 21 and what now lost completely, a championship title. The club scored 31 goals, remains the goal master of the season of the north of the island.

Grupo Desportivo Benfica de Santa Cruz, sometimes as Grupo Desportivo Benfica is a football (soccer) club that plays in the Santiago Island North League in Cape Verde. It is based in the town of Calheta de São Miguel in the island of Santiago and plays at Estádio Municipal 25 de Julho located northwest of the city center. Since the implementation of the two tier regional system in 2015, the club are one of ten unrelegated clubs of northern Santiago.

Grémio Desportivo de Nhagar, not often with an accented a as Nhágar is a football club that plays in the Premier division of the Santiago North Zone League in Cape Verde. It is based in the neighborhood of Nhàgar in the city of Assomada in the middle of the island of Santiago and plays in the Cumbém Stadium with a capacity that serves 5,000. Since the implementation of the two tier regional system in 2015, Grémio Nhágar are one of ten unrelegated clubs of northern Santiago. Its current chairman as of 2014 is Mandel da Lomba since October 24, 2014.

Estrela dos Amadores

Clube de Futebol Estrela dos Amadores is a football (soccer) club that plays in the Santiago Island League North Zone in Cape Verde. The team is based in the town of Tarrafal in the northern part of the island of Santiago and are one of the oldest clubs in the area. Since the implementation of the two tier regional system in 2015, Estrela dos Amadores are one of ten unrelegated clubs of the North Zone of Santiago.

Its logo features a shieldy crest with red and white stripes on the bottom left and the area's geographic feature on the top right and the acronym of the club "GDRSL" and the year of foundation on the bottom right, in the top middle is a football or a soccer ball. [1]
