Utica High School, known locally as UHS, is one of four public high schools in the Utica Community School District, located in the metro Detroit region.
The forerunner of Utica High School, the Utica Union School, opened in 1860. It was renamed Utica High School in 1900. The school was originally located within its namesake city of Utica, Michigan until 1955, when the construction of the current building was completed in Shelby Township. The former location is now home to Eppler Jr. High School.
Utica High School was the district's original high school. It served as the sole high school until Henry Ford II, Stevenson, and Eisenhower High Schools opened in the late '60s and '70s. [3]
As of the 2020–2021 school year, the school had a total enrollment of 1,404. Of that, 84.3% were white, 4.7% were African American, 4.1% were Asian, 4.3% were Hispanic, 2.3% were multi-racial, 0.2% were native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and 0.1% were Native American. [4]
The gender distribution was evenly distributed between those male and female.
Approximately 36% of the student body was considered economically disadvantaged, with 31% eligible to participate in the Free Lunch Program under the National School Lunch Act. [5]
Utica competes in the Macomb Area Conference. [6] The football team plays their home games at Swinehart Field, which they share with crosstown rival Eisenhower High School. [7]

As of the 2020 Census, the population was 881,217, making it the third-most populous county in the state. The county seat is Mt. Clemens. Drew Emeric Stanton is an American dancer and former professional football player who was a quarterback for 14 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2007 NFL draft, after playing college football for the Michigan State Spartans. Stanton was a journeyman quarterback who was a member of the New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, and for a short stint the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, coming out of retirement.

Calvin Johnson Jr., is an American former football wide receiver who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons with the Detroit Lions. Nicknamed "Megatron" after the Transformers character of the same name, he is regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers of all time. He played college football for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, winning the Fred Biletnikoff Award as a junior, and was selected by the Lions second overall in the 2007 NFL draft.
Thornton Steve Stonebreaker was a professional American football linebacker who played in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Detroit and was picked by the Minnesota Vikings in the 12th round of the 1961 NFL Draft as a tight end. He played one season at tight end before switching over to the defensive side of the ball as a linebacker for the rest of his career. He played a total of seven seasons in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings (1962–1963), the Baltimore Colts (1964–1966), and the New Orleans Saints (1967–1968). He was drafted by the Saints in the 1967 NFL Expansion Draft and was one of the original New Orleans Saints players. He also played a football player in the 1969 Charlton Heston movie Number One, which featured the New Orleans Saints.
Brandon Lee Graham is an American football defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Eagles in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft with the thirteenth selection in the draft and the first from the Big Ten Conference. He was an All-American college football player at the University of Michigan.
Redford High School was a secondary school in Detroit, Michigan. A part of Detroit Public Schools, the school opened in September 1921 and ceased operations in June 2007. Freddie George Bishop III is a former gridiron football defensive lineman. He played college football at Western Michigan University. He first enrolled at Robichaud High School before transferring to Airport High School in Carleton, Michigan. He has also been a member of the New York Jets, Calgary Stampeders, Memphis Express, and Toronto Argonauts.

Aidan Joseph Bernardi Hutchinson is an American football defensive end for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). Hutchinson was a unanimous All-American at the University of Michigan, and the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 2021. He was selected with the second overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions, and named to the All-Rookie Team in 2022. Hutchinson was voted to his first Pro Bowl in 2023.
Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner is an American football cornerback for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Cincinnati and was selected fourth overall by the Jets in the 2022 NFL draft. Gardner was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and was the first rookie cornerback since Ronnie Lott in 1981 to be named first-team All-Pro.
