Grosse Pointe North High School is a public high school in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. North is a four-year comprehensive high school with an enrollment of around 1,400 and expected 2016 graduating class of 350. Classes are in session for 182 days per year and the school day is from 8:00 AM to 3:05 PM.

Contents

The principal is Kate Murray; she won the 2015 Educators Voice Award. [7] The assistant principals are Katy Vernier, Michelle Davis, and Geoffrey Harris Young. Davis is also the school's athletic director. [8]

North consistently ranks among the nation's best high schools.

The school opened in 1968 after Grosse Pointe High School was split into two schools, and Grosse Pointe North took the northern side of Grosse Pointe's students and Northeastern Harper Woods' students. It is a member of the Grosse Pointe Public School System.

Communities served and feeder patterns

The school serves the following communities: [12] all of Grosse Pointe Woods, [13] the GPPSS section of Harper Woods, [14] a small northwest section of Grosse Pointe Farms, [15] and the Wayne County section of Grosse Pointe Shores. [16]

Three elementary schools, Ferry, Mason, and Monteith, feed into GPNHS. All of the attendance boundary of Parcells Middle School and a section of the boundary of Brownell Middle School coincides with that of GPNHS. [12]

Boys' sports include: baseball, basketball, crew, cross country, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, sailing, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and wrestling. Girls sports include: basketball, cheerleading, crew, cross country, dance team, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, sailing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Grosse Pointe North has won numerous state championship titles: Baseball (1980, 2006), Girls' Basketball (2008), Boys' Cross Country (1973, 1975, 1976, 1982), Boys' Hockey (2001, 2002), Girls' Lacrosse (1999), Girls' Swimming & Diving (1999), and Girls’ Soccer (2023). Extracurricular clubs

Grosse Pointe North's Radio Astronomy Team, the "RATz", under Ardis Herrold, are credited as being the first high school group to build its own radio telescope from scratch in the United States. [18]

The Quiz Bowl team won the Class A Michigan High School State Championship in 2010 [19] and participates in many NAQT tournaments. The team has attended the NAQT National High School Championship tournament (HSNCT). [20]

Wayzata High School is a comprehensive public high school in Plymouth, Minnesota, United States, a suburb of Minneapolis. The high school, operated by Wayzata Public Schools, had about 3711 students in grades 9 to 12 as of 10/1/23, making it Minnesota's largest secondary school by enrollment. It is also Minnesota's largest secondary school by size, with an interior of 658,000 square feet (61,100 m2). Lahser High School was a high school in Bloomfield Township, Oakland County, Michigan, near Bloomfield Hills and in Greater Detroit. It was a part of Bloomfield Hills Schools. The school was opened in 1967. At the time it had 200 students, and enrollment later reached almost 900 students. In 2010, the decision was made to merge the school with sister school Andover High School, on Andover's grounds. In 2020, it was decided that the Lahser campus would become the site of Bloomfield Hills Middle School North following a successful bond proposal. The football program had five consecutive playoff-eligible seasons, 2002–2006, in both class 3 and class 2 MHSAA competition.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Northern Indiana Athletic Conference</span>

The Northern Indiana Conference (NIC) is a high school athletic conference that was founded in 1927 and spanned from as far west as Hammond and Gary to South Bend/Mishawaka and Elkhart to the east and south to Plymouth. Since its start in 1927, a total of 32 separate schools have at one time called the NIC home. From its inception until 1963, the conference had been divided into East and West divisions. The West Division left to form the Northwestern Conference in 1963. With membership dwindling to 7 members by the 1970s, the conference added former members of the Northern Indiana Valley Conference to its ranks. Currently, every former NIVC member is now a part of the NIC except for South Bend Jackson, which closed in 1973, and South Bend LaSalle, which joined the NIC in 1977, but closed in 2001.

Monticello High School is a public high school located in Monticello, Minnesota, United States. It is a part of the Monticello School District. The Principals are Matthew Coalwell and Lori Hanson. The current high school was constructed in the late 1990s by architects Rego and Youngquist and officially opened in September 1999. Monticello High School is Wright County's third largest school. The nickname for the school's athletic teams is the Magic.
