De La Salle Collegiate High School is an all-boys Catholic high school run by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. Founded in 1926, the school was located on the east side of Detroit before moving to its current location in Warren, Michigan, in 1982.

History

The school first opened in 1926 by the Christian Brothers Association. The first class graduated in Ohio. Future Detroit Mayor Coleman Young was denied entry to the school on the basis of his race in the early 30's. Later when recounting his experience he said "A brother in the order asked if was Hawaiian. I told him, "No, brother, I'm colored.' He tore up the application form right in front of my nose. I'll never forget. It was my first real jolt about what it means to be black." [3]

Athletics

Warren De La Salle has a rich tradition of athletics throughout the history of the school. Within the last decade, the school has won 5 state championships in football, 1 in hockey, 1 in basketball, and 1 in baseball.

The Catholic High School League (CHSL) is a school athletic conference based in Detroit, Michigan, led by director Victor Michaels. Most member schools are also members of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), the governing body for Michigan scholastic sports, except for the five schools from Toledo, which are members of the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Unlike many similar leagues, the CHSL governs secondary, middle, and elementary sports for most of the parochial schools in the Detroit area. Steven Craig Morrison is a retired professional American football linebacker who played for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL) from 1995 to 1998. He is currently the associate head coach/linebackers coach at Bowling Green Falcons football. He previously served as the linebackers coach for the Eastern Michigan Eagles football team, on the coaching staff at Western Michigan, and as the linebackers coach at Syracuse Orange football. Prior to these professional experiences, he had excelled in college football as an All-Big Ten Conference inside linebacker from 1990 to 1994 for the Michigan Wolverines, whom he served as captain. In high school, he had been a Detroit Free Press first-team All-State (Michigan) and second-team All-Midwest selection in football and an All-American in lacrosse.
