Ventura High School (VHS) is a public high school in Ventura, California. The school is part of the Ventura Unified School District. It serves students in the western portion of Ventura and surrounding unincorporated communities, including Casitas Springs, Oak View, and La Conchita. VHS is a California Distinguished School.
Ventura High School was established in 1889.
In 2012, Sebastien DeClerck, a French and Italian language teacher at VHS, was honored as a California Teacher of the Year for 2013. [2]
Ventura High's music department has an Instrumental Jazz Ensemble, a Vocal Jazz Ensemble, a Wind Ensemble, an Honors Wind Ensemble, a String Orchestra, a Global String Ensemble, and a pep band that is open to all music students and plays at sporting events. The Vocal Jazz Ensemble was added in the 2018–2019 school year and consists of members of the Instrumental Jazz Ensemble and vocalists from all around the school. Both the Wind Ensemble and String Orchestra earned distinction nationwide at invitational music festivals in Boston, New York, Hawaii, and most recently in 2015 at the NAI Invitational Festival in Chicago, in which both groups won first place gold superior in their divisions and the String Orchestra won the entire competition.
The Global String Ensemble is an intermediate-level orchestra that performs basic high school string ensemble repertoire as well as traditional Mariachi ensemble repertoire. The department also has an Honors String Quartet chosen every year, earning distinction nationwide at District, Regional, and State Festivals. In the 2014–2015 school year, the school reestablished a Ventura Unified School District Youth Symphony.
Ventura High School athletic teams are nicknamed the Cougars. The school competes in the Pacific View League, a CIF Southern Section conference which the school joined in 2018. Before this, VHS was a long-time member of the Channel League. [3] The school has 21 teams competing at the varsity level. Ventura's primary rival is Buena High School in east Ventura. As of the 2018–19 academic year, David Hess is the athletic director.
Larrabee Stadium, located on the north end of the campus and overlooking the city, is named for alum Mike Larrabee. The football field within the stadium is named for alum Eric "E-Rock" Turner. The gymnasium is named for former coach Bob Tuttle.
Homestead High School is a four-year public high school serving western Sunnyvale, southern Los Altos, and northwestern Cupertino, in Santa Clara County, California. Established in 1962, the school serves 2,405 students in grades 9 to 12 as part of the Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD). In 2003 and 2009, the California Department of Education recognized Homestead as a California Distinguished School, and in 2004, the Department of Education recognized Homestead as a Blue Ribbon School.

Eric Ray Turner was an American professional football player who was a safety for the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Oakland Raiders in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the UCLA Bruins, earning All-American honors in 1990. Turner was selected by Cleveland with the second overall pick of the 1991 NFL draft. He died of stomach cancer at the age of 31.
Bishop Montgomery High School is a Catholic high school serving twenty-five parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. BMHS was founded in 1957, and staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Conventual Franciscans, and lay faculty. The 24-acre (97,000 m2) campus is located in Torrance, California, in southwest Los Angeles County, one mile (1.6 km) from the Pacific Ocean and the Del Amo Mall. The coeducational student body is approximately 900 students in grades 9 through 12, making BMHS the sixth largest private high school in Los Angeles County.

Michael Andrew Seidman is a former American football tight end. He was a 1998 USA Today high school football first-team All-American. He played college football at UCLA, where he was All-Pac-10 First-team, and set a UCLA record for most receiving yards in a season by a 2003 NFL draft. His NFL career was cut short by two ACL knee injuries.
Robert A. Millikan Senior High School is a high school in Long Beach, California, United States, administered by the Long Beach Unified School District. Carlsbad High School is a public high school in Carlsbad, California. As an aftermath of World War II and the subsequent baby boom, Carlsbad's population skyrocketed and there became a sudden need for more schools. In 1955, voters in Oceanside and Carlsbad voted and approved a $1.26 million dollar construction bond that funded the building of Carlsbad's first public high school. Carlsbad High School first opened in 1957 and the high school underwent major redevelopment from 2009 to 2012. In 2010, the API index for the school was 812. Before construction of the high school, most students in Carlsbad went to the combined Oceanside Carlsbad High School, which was founded in 1906.
Deer Valley High School is a public high school located in Glendale, Arizona, part of the Deer Valley Unified School District. The school opened its doors in 1980 with an initial enrollment of 750 students. Today, the campus is housed on more than 60 acres (240,000 m2) with a current enrollment of about 1,900 students. Deer Valley High School has been recognized for student achievements in a range of academics and athletics. The school is run by over 100 teachers, five counselors, one psychologist, four administrators, and numerous other support staff with Paul Roskelly as the current principal. The 2011 renovation was the first major renovation to the school since its 1980 construction.
