Vicki Susan O'Halloran AO CVO (born 20 June 1964) is an Australian businesswoman and community worker, who was CEO of Somerville Community Services in the Northern Territory from 1998 to 2017. On 31 October 2017, she was sworn in as the 22nd administrator of the Northern Territory, replacing John Hardy. [1]
O'Halloran was born in Burnie, Tasmania, and educated at Smithton High School and Devonport Community College. She worked as an education officer and child care director for Circular Head Council, before moving to Darwin, Northern Territory in 1989 where she studied for a Bachelor of Children's Services at Charles Darwin University. In 1993, she joined Somerville Community Services, as deputy CEO and manager, and became CEO in 1998. [2]
In 2014, O'Halloran was made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to people with a disability through roles with a range of organisations, and to the community. [3] She was subsequently advanced to Officer of the Order of Australia in the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours for distinguished service to the people of the Northern Territory, and to the disability sector through a range of executive roles. [4] She was appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in the 2023 New Year Honours. [5]
Clare Majella Martin is a former Australian journalist and politician. She was elected to the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly in a shock by-election win in 1995. She was appointed Opposition Leader in 1999, and won a surprise victory at the 2001 territory election, becoming the first Labor Party (ALP) and first female Chief Minister of the Northern Territory. At the 2005 election, she led Territory Labor to the second-largest majority government in the history of the Territory, before resigning as Chief Minister on 26 November 2007.
The Administrator of the Northern Territory is an official appointed by the Governor-General of Australia to represent the government of the Commonwealth in the Northern Territory, Australia. They perform functions similar to those of a state governor.
Dame Roma Flinders Mitchell, was an Australian lawyer, judge and state governor. The Northern Territory Police Force is the police body that has legal jurisdiction over the Northern Territory of Australia. This police service has 1,607 police members made up of 83 senior sergeants, 228 sergeants, 912 constables, 220 auxiliaries, and 64 Aboriginal Community Police Officers. Marion Rose Scrymgour is an Australian politician and the current MP for Lingiari. She was a member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 2001 to 2012, representing the electorate of Arafura. She was the Labor Party Deputy Chief Minister of the Northern Territory from November 2007 until February 2009, and was the highest-ranked Indigenous Australian woman in government in Australia's history. She was also the first Indigenous woman to be elected to the Northern Territory Parliament.
Yuendumu is a town in the Northern Territory of Australia, 293 km (182 mi) northwest of Alice Springs on the Tanami Road, within the Central Desert Region local government area. It ranks as one of the larger remote communities in central Australia, and has a thriving community of Aboriginal artists. She was appointed to the Court on 10 August 1992 and was the first woman to be appointed a Judge of the Court.
