Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto OF (MIL) is a Fijian soldier,politician and former Cabinet Minister. After serving as Commander of the Republic of Fiji Navy,he was appointed as a Minister in the military regime of dictator Frank Bainimarama. He was later appointed commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces,before being elected to the Parliament of Fiji in December 2022.
He joined the Republic of Fiji Military Forces in 1982 and served in the Fiji Navy. [1] In 1994 he was the Captain of the newly commissioned RFNS Kula. [2] During his time in the military,he served as the Commander of Fiji Navy,Director Finance and Logistics and Commander. [1] While serving as Navy Commander,Naupoto was arrested drink-driving. His case file subsequently went missing from the Nabua police station, [3] but was eventually found,and he was convicted and fined US$100. [4]
Following the 2006 Fijian coup d'état Naupoto was appointed Director of Immigration by the military,and was responsible for placing travel bans on the regime's opponents. [5] He also deported legal representatives of regime opponents. [6] After being sent to India for training, [7] he was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, [8] and then chair of the Fiji Trade and Investment Board [9] [10] and Permanent Secretary of the Department of Fisheries and Forests. [11] In February 2012 he was appointed Minister of Youth and Sports in the military cabinet. [12]
Naputo was selected as a FijiFirst candidate for the 2014 Fijian general election, [13] but not elected. Following the election he returned to the military,serving as chief of staff. [14] [15] Following the sudden resignation of RFMF Commander Mosese Tikoitoga in August 2015 he was appointed acting commander. [16] The appointment was made permanent in March 2016. [17] [18] In November 2015 he was promoted to Rear Admiral. [19] When Jioji Konrote was elected President of Fiji in October 2015,Naupoto became eligible for a seat in Parliament as his replacement,but turned it down to stay in the military. [20] He retired from the RFMF in March 2021, [21] and was replaced as RFMF Commander by Jone Kalouniwai in September 2021. [22] [23]
He was selected again as a FijiFirst candidate for the 2022 election, [24] [25] and was elected with 830 votes. [26] [27] Following the election he was appointed as chair of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee. [28]
In November 2014 Naupoto was made an Officer of the Order of Fiji. [29]
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces is the military force of the Pacific island nation of Fiji. With a total manpower of about 4,500 active soldiers and approximately 6,200 reservists,it is one of the smallest militaries in the world and the third largest in the South Pacific region. The Ground Force is organised into six infantry and one engineer battalions.
Josaia Voreqe "Frank" Bainimarama is a Fijian politician and former naval officer who served as the prime minister of Fiji from 2007 until 2022. A member of the FijiFirst party,which he founded in 2014,he began his career as an officer in the Fijian navy and commander of the Fijian military. Despite being suspended from Parliament,he served as the opposition leader from 24 December 2022 until 8 March 2023,when he resigned and was replaced by Inia Seruiratu.
Poseci Waqalevu Bune was a Fijian civil servant,diplomat,politician and Cabinet Minister. He served as chair of the Public Service Commissioner,secretary to the Prime Minister,and as Fiji's permanent representative to the United Nations,as well as a Cabinet Minister in the governments of Mahendra Chaudhry and Laisenia Qarase,and in the military regime of Frank Bainimarama. Bune died of prostate cancer on 22 November 2023,at the age of 77.
Parveen Kumar Bala is a Fijian politician and former Cabinet Minister. He served as Mayor of Ba from 1997 to 2009,and in the Cabinet of Frank Bainimarama from 2014 to 2022. He is a former president of the Fiji Local Government Association.

In 2007,when he was serving as Commander of the Republic of Fiji Navy he was charged with murder. He was ultimately convicted of manslaughter,but served only six months of an 18 month sentence. Kean is the brother-in-law of former Fijian dictator Frank Bainimarama.

Jone Baledrokadroka is a Fijian academic and former soldier who served briefly as Republic of Fiji Military Forces Land Force Commander in January 2006. He was dismissed from the post after only four days after RFMF Commander Frank Bainimarama accused him of planning a mutiny. He is the son of former senator and Taukei ni Waluvu Ratu Alipate Baledrokadroka and the brother of Senator Adi Lagamu Vuiyasawa. He is also the uncle for New Zealand netballer Erikana Pedersen.
RFNS Kula (201) is a Pacific Forum patrol boat operated by Fiji. She was designed and built by Australia. Australia agreed to provide twenty-two patrol boats to twelve of its neighbours and fellow members of the Pacific Forum,after the recently concluded United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea extended maritime nations' exclusive economic zone to 200 kilometres (110 nmi). Australia provided two other patrol vessels to Fiji,Kikau and Kiro. Australia also provided training and infrastructure.

Premila Kumar is a Fijian consumer advocate,politician and former Cabinet Minister. She served as chief executive of the Consumer Council of Fiji from 2006 to 2018,and then as a Cabinet Minister in the government of Frank Bainimarama from 2018 to 2022. She is a member of the FijiFirst party.
