West Texas is a loosely defined part of the U.S. state of Texas, generally encompassing the arid and semiarid lands west of a line drawn between the cities of Wichita Falls, Abilene, and Del Rio.
The Continental Baseball League, based in Addison, Texas, was an independent minor league professional baseball league that operated for four seasons, from 2007 to 2010. The league conceived as a professional, independent baseball organization operating in the U.S. states of New Mexico, Louisiana and Texas in cities not served by Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball teams nor affiliated with either. The league was founded by Ron Baron and former major leaguer Jay Johnstone.
The White Sands Pupfish is a professional baseball team based in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The team is a member of the Pecos League, an independent baseball league which is not affiliated with Major or Minor League Baseball. They were originally known as the Coastal Kingfish and played in the Continental Baseball League. For the 2009 season, the Kingfish was a traveling team without a home ballpark. In early April 2010, the Coastal Kingfish replaced the West Texas Road Hogs as the CBL travel team. The Kingfish joined the Pecos League in 2011 as the White Sands Pupfish, and relocated to Alamogordo, New Mexico.
The Alpine Cowboys are a professional baseball team based in Alpine, Texas, in the Big Bend region of West Texas. The Cowboys are a franchise of the Pecos League, which is not affiliated with a Major League Baseball Organization. They play their home games at historic Kokernot Field, a 1,200 seat stone and wrought-iron replica of Chicago's Wrigley Field that dates from 1948.
The Las Cruces Vaqueros were a professional baseball team based in Las Cruces, New Mexico that began play in 2010. The Vaqueros played in the Pecos League, an independent baseball league which is not affiliated with Major or Minor League Baseball. They played their home games at Apodoca Park, a 1,500 seat stadium. The team did not field a team in the Pecos League in 2013, though they did participate in the Pecos Spring League in March 2013. The team returned to the Pecos League for 2015, though did not return in 2016.

Following the 2014 season in which the team finished in last place, they were immediately dropped by the Pecos League.
