Southern California is a geographic and cultural region that generally comprises the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. It includes the Los Angeles metropolitan area as well as the Inland Empire. The region generally contains ten of California's 58 counties:Imperial,Kern,Los Angeles,Orange,Riverside,San Bernardino,San Diego,Santa Barbara,San Luis Obispo,and Ventura counties.
Greater Los Angeles is the most populous metropolitan area in the U.S. state of California,encompassing five counties in Southern California extending from Ventura County in the west to San Bernardino County and Riverside County in the east,with Los Angeles County in the center,and Orange County to the southeast. The Los Angeles–Anaheim–Riverside combined statistical area (CSA) covers 33,954 square miles (87,940 km2),making it the largest metropolitan region in the United States by land area. The contiguous urban area is 2,281 square miles (5,910 km2),whereas the remainder mostly consists of mountain and desert areas. With a population of 18.4 million in 2024,it is the second-largest metropolitan area in the country,behind New York,as well as one of the largest megacities in the world.
Robert Earl Filner is an American former politician who was the 35th mayor of San Diego from December 2012 through August 2013,when he resigned amid multiple allegations of sexual harassment. He later pleaded guilty to state charges of false imprisonment and battery. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
The mayor of the City of San Diego is the official head and chief executive officer of the U.S. city of San Diego,California. The mayor has the duty to enforce and execute the laws enacted by the San Diego City Council,the legislative branch. The mayor serves a four-year term and is limited to two successive terms.

The Oxnard Plain is a large coastal plain in southwest Ventura County,California,United States surrounded by the mountains of the Transverse ranges. The cities of Oxnard,Camarillo,Port Hueneme and much of Ventura as well as the unincorporated communities of Hollywood Beach,El Rio,Saticoy,Silver Strand Beach,and Somis lie within the over 200-square-mile alluvial plain (520 km2). The population within the plain comprises a majority of the western half of the Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura Metro Area and includes the largest city along the Central Coast of California. The 16.5-mile-long coastline (26.6 km) is among the longest stretches of continuous,linear beaches in the state.

Ventura–East station is a Metrolink passenger train station in the Montalvo neighborhood of Ventura,California. Passengers board here for Metrolink's Ventura County Line going towards Los Angeles Union Station. The platform is just off the main coast route on the Santa Paula Branch Line which is owned by the Ventura County Transportation Commission.
Ventura station is a passenger rail station in downtown Ventura,California. The station is served by Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner from San Luis Obispo to San Diego. Ten Pacific Surfliner trains serve the station daily. Of the 73 California stations served by Amtrak,Ventura was the 33rd-busiest in FY2010,boarding or detraining an average of approximately 125 passengers daily. The single platform is located on the south side of the tracks with a view of the Santa Barbara Channel and the Channel Islands. The Ventura Freeway is parallel with and on the north side of tracks.
Oxnard High School (OHS) is a public four-year high school serving grades 9–12 in Oxnard,California. The school is part of the Oxnard Union High School District and serves students in the western portion of the city of Oxnard,north Port Hueneme,and adjacent unincorporated beach neighborhoods.
Todd Rex Gloria is an American politician serving as the 37th and current mayor of San Diego since 2020. As mayor,he is the chief executive officer in the city of San Diego. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Jan Ira Goldsmith is a Republican politician from San Diego,California,United States who served as the San Diego City Attorney from 2008 to 2016.
Kevin Lee Faulconer is an American politician who served as the 36th mayor of San Diego,California from 2014 to 2020. A member of the Republican Party,Faulconer served as the member of the San Diego City Council for the 2nd district from 2006 to 2014.
David Alvarez is an American politician who is a member of the California State Assembly from the 80th district,which includes Chula Vista,National City,and parts of southern San Diego. A member of the Democratic Party,Alvarez previously served as a member of the San Diego City Council from the 8th district from 2010 to 2018 and was the Democratic nominee in the 2013–2014 San Diego mayoral special election.
The 2012 San Diego mayoral election was held on Tuesday,November 6,2012,to elect the mayor for San Diego. Incumbent mayor Jerry Sanders was term-limited and ineligible to run for re-election.
The 2013–2014 San Diego mayoral special election was a special election to elect the Mayor of San Diego. The election was made necessary by the resignation of Bob Filner on August 30,2013. The winner stood to serve out the balance of Filner's term,which ended in 2016.
Edward Brian Harris is a lifeguard,union leader,and politician from San Diego,California. He was a member of the San Diego City Council representing City Council District 2,which includes the communities of Pacific Beach,Mission Beach,Ocean Beach,Point Loma,Bay Ho,Bay Park,Morena,and Midway. He was appointed to the City Council on April 7,2014.
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development estimated that more than 181,399 people were experiencing homelessness in California in January 2023. This represents more than 27% of the homeless population of the United States even though California has slightly less than 12% of the country's total population,and is one of the highest per capita rates in the nation,with 0.46% of residents being homeless. More than two-thirds of homeless people in California are unsheltered,which is the highest percentage of any state in the United States. 49% of the unsheltered homeless people in the United States live in California:about 123,423 people,which is eight times as many as the state with the second highest total. Even those who are sheltered are so insecurely,with 90% of homeless adults in California reporting that they spent at least one night unsheltered in the past six months.
