Wingfield is a suburb situated north of Adelaide. It lies between the Port River Expressway on the north and Grand Junction Road on the south. The suburb borders Dry Creek to its north and east, bounded by the Gawler railway line and Adelaide-Port Augusta railway line on the east. The North-South Motorway and Dry Creek-Port Adelaide railway line both cross the suburb. Wingfield is named after R. W. Wingfield, the private secretary to Governor of South Australia, William Jervois. [2]
The suburb is in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield local government area.
The southwestern corner of the suburb includes residential housing, however the majority of the suburb is industrial. Industry includes recycling, manufacturing and freight forwarding.
Wingfield is the site of the 94ha Wingfield Waste & Recycling Centre (commonly known as the Wingfield Tip or Wingfield Dump), formerly owned and operated by the Adelaide City Council, [3] and now operated as a "collaborative cluster of commercial businesses" including Orora, Adelaide Resource Recovery, Jeffries Group and Transpacific Industries. [4] Between 1952 and 2004, the Wingfield site was operated as a landfill dump. Since 2004 it has become a waste and recycling transfer centre, with all waste being sorted into recyclable products or waste products. The waste is compacted and transferred to other landfill sites north of Adelaide, at Dublin and Inkerman.
Wingfield is home to Australia's only dedicated junior Motorcycle speedway track, the Sidewinders Speedway located at the Wingfield Reserve on Eighth Street adjacent to the Wingfield Tip. The 112 metres (122 yd) long track was opened in 1978 by the Sidewinders U/16 Speedway Club which had formed in 1976.
The Adelaide–Darwin rail corridor is a 2,975 kilometres (1,849 mi) series of south–north transcontinental railway lines in Australia, between the cities of Adelaide and Darwin. Built in stages in the twentieth century, the corridor was completed in 2004 when the Alice Springs to Darwin line opened. The corridor is used by The Ghan passenger train and freight trains operated by One Rail Australia.
Homebush Bay is a bay on the south bank of the Parramatta River, in the west of Sydney, Australia. The name is also sometimes used to refer to an area to the west and south of the bay itself, which was formerly an official suburb of Sydney, and has now become the suburbs of Sydney Olympic Park, Wentworth Point and part of the neighbouring suburb of Lidcombe, all part of the City of Parramatta. Homebush Bay is located 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) west of the Sydney central business district.
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield, located across inner north and north-western suburbs of Adelaide, is one of the largest metropolitan councils within South Australia. It was established on 26 March 1996 by the amalgamation of the City of Port Adelaide and the City of Enfield.
Adelaide Railway Station is the central terminus of the Adelaide Metro railway system. All lines approach the station from the west, and it is a terminal station with no through lines, with most of the traffic on the metropolitan network either departing or terminating here. It has nine platforms, all using broad gauge track. It is located on the north side of North Terrace, west of Parliament House. The Adelaide Casino occupies part of the building that is no longer required for railway use. Until 1984, Adelaide station was also the terminus for regional and interstate passenger trains, but there are no longer any regular regional train services in South Australia, and all interstate services are now handled at Adelaide Parklands Terminal.

Port Adelaide is a port-side region of Adelaide, approximately 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) northwest of the Adelaide CBD. The Dry Creek–Port Adelaide railway line is an eight-kilometre east–west line running through Adelaide's north-western suburbs. The line is managed by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) and is an important link between Port Adelaide, Pelican Point and the main interstate rail routes which link Adelaide with Melbourne, Perth, Darwin and Sydney. Prior to 1988, a limited local passenger service operated, stopping at five intermediate stations along the line. Since May 1988, the line has been freight-only.

Dry Creek railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated in the inner northern Adelaide suburb of Dry Creek, it is 10.6 kilometres (6.6 mi) from Adelaide station.
Dry Creek is a mostly industrial suburb north of Adelaide, containing significant wetlands and a substantial area formerly devoted to salt crystallisation pans, managed by Ridley Corporation, which planned to redevelop the site for housing. This plan, first put forward in 2008, was revived in 2013, for a proposed 10,000 homes. Salt production ceased in 2014, and in 2016 Ridley Corporation sold the land to Adelaide Resource Recovery.
Tarago is a town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia in Goulburn Mulwaree Council. Part of the defined locality, which includes a large area of grazing country, is on the eastern shore of Lake George in the area of the Queanbeyan–Palerang Regional Council. The town is situated 39 kilometres south of the city of Goulburn and 69 kilometres northeast of Canberra, the capital city of Australia. It is located on the Goulburn-Braidwood road. The town is notable for recent renewable energy projects in the surrounding districts.

The Sidewinders Speedway is a junior Motorcycle speedway that was opened in 1978 in the semi-industrial Adelaide suburb of Wingfield in South Australia. The Sidewinders U/16 Speedway Club Inc. was founded two years earlier in 1976 by Graham Baker and Roy Bitmead, with help from Rowley Park Speedway riders Robin and Kym Amundson, and their father Bill. As it was then, Sidewinders goal is to promote and develop speedway through its junior ranks with riders aged 4–15, something that had rarely been done in Australia to that point. Once a rider turns 16 he or she then move into the senior ranks.
Waste management in Australia started to be implemented as a modern system by the second half of the 19th century, with its progresses driven by technological and sanitary advances.
