The Women's Philippine Basketball League was a semi-professional women's basketball league in the Philippines. [1]

Contents

It was originally formed in 1998 as the women's counterpart to the Philippine Basketball League. The league went on hiatus from 2000 until it was revived in 2008. [2] [3] [4] The league was revived by Mikee Romero. [5]

However, the league quickly folded after that season. [1]

The league, at least for the 2008 season, was sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the country's national basketball federation. [5]

Ever Bilena team of Dioceldo Sy dominated the league, winning all three seasons. [6] [7]

From a successful college career with the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers, Cardona was taken fifth overall by Air21 Express in the 2005 PBA draft. A five-time PBA All-Star, Cardona was the PBA scoring champion in 2008 and won the 2008–09 PBA Philippine Cup and Finals MVP award with Talk 'N Text.

Januario "Aric" del Rosario was a Filipino basketball player and coach who served as head coach of the UST Growling Tigers in the UAAP, Pampanga Dragons in the Metropolitan Basketball Association, the 2003 RP Men's Team in the Southeast Asian Games, and of the UPHSD Altas from 2012 to 2015; until he retired and was made a consultant of the team in the NCAA. Aristeo "Aries" Dimaunahan is a Filipino former professional basketball player who is the assistant coach of the Blackwater Bossing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), and is the currently the head coach of the NU Lady Bulldogs of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

The Blackwater Sports was a basketball team that played in the PBA Developmental League from 2011 to 2014. It was one of the founding teams of the PBA D-League and was owned by Ever Bilena Cosmetics, Inc. The team was originally named Blackwater Elite during the 2011 season. The franchise moved to the Philippine Basketball Association in 2014 as an expansion team and will play under the name Blackwater Elite.

The Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup, formerly known as the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup and also known as the Filoil EcoOil ECJ Preseason Cup in 2024, is a pre-season collegiate basketball tournament in the Philippines. Jeron Alvin Uy Teng is a Filipino professional basketball player for the San Miguel Beermen of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). As a PBA player, he usually starts at the swingman position but occasionally plays as a power forward during the Philippine Cup. Pinay Ballers League, abbreviated as PBL, is a women's basketball league based in the Philippines. It was formed in 2014 by Ewon’s Sports Association, Inc., a group of local women's basketball stakeholders, They were led by former Adamson Falcons player Merenciana "Ewon" Arayi, captain of the Philippines women's national basketball team in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games. The PBL aims to give women basketball players, who have played on the national team or in collegiate leagues, a chance to play after college and start a semi-professional career.

Patrick Henry Aquino is a Filipino basketball coach who serves as the head coach of the Philippines women's national basketball team, he has been appointed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas since December 2014 when the team have a new corporate backer Ever Bilena, replacing long-time mentor Haydee Ong. This is the second time that Aquino has coached a national team, Aquino was once manned coaching duties for the Philippines women's national under-19 basketball team. Among his coaching achievements for promoted into Level 1 of 2017 FIBA Asia Women's Championship.
