"Yorokobi no Uta" (喜びの歌 in Japanese text, translates to "Song of Joy") is the fourth overall single by Japanese boy band, KAT-TUN, and the first from their third studio album, KAT-TUN III: Queen of Pirates . The single was released in two editions; a regular edition with the songs and its instrumental versions and a limited edition with a DVD of the music video.

The modern Japanese writing system uses a combination of logographic kanji, which are adopted Chinese characters, and syllabic kana. A boy band is loosely defined as a vocal group consisting of young male singers, usually in their teenage years or in their twenties at the time of formation, singing love songs marketed towards young women. Being vocal groups, most boy band members do not play musical instruments, either in recording sessions or on stage, making the term something of a misnomer. However, exceptions do exist. Many boy bands dance as well as sing, usually giving highly choreographed performances.

KAT-TUN is a Japanese boy band formed under Johnny & Associates (Johnny's) in 2001. The group's name was originally an acronym based on the first letter of each member's family name: Kazuya Kamenashi, Jin Akanishi, Junnosuke Taguchi, Koki Tanaka, Tatsuya Ueda, and Yuichi Nakamaru. Their debut on March 22, 2006 was marked by a tripartite release of a CD single, album and music DVD on their exclusive record label J-One Records. Since then, all of their single, album and music DVD releases have debuted at number one on the Oricon music and DVD charts.

It was released on June 6, 2007 and became KAT-TUN's fourth consecutive number 1 on the Oricon singles charts with more than 300,000 copies sold in its first week.

Oricon Inc., established in 1999, is the holding company at the head of a Japanese corporate group that supplies statistics and information on music and the music industry in Japan. It started as Original Confidence Inc., which was founded by Sōkō Koike in November 1967 and became known for its music charts. Oricon Inc. was originally set up as a subsidiary of Original Confidence and took over the latter’s Oricon record charts in April 2002.

Song information

"Yorokobi no Uta" was written and composed by N.B.Comics and zero-rock. Koki Tanaka penned his own rap verses whilst the track was arranged by Gin.K. Though Jin Akanishi appeared in the music video for "YOU", this song is the first official single to mark his homecoming after a six-month hiatus which he spent studying English in Los Angeles. [1] The song was also used as the theme song for Tanaka's romantic comedy series, Tokkyu Tanaka 3 Go, which aired on TBS. [2]

Koki Tanaka is a Japanese singer–songwriter, actor and former Japanese idol. He was a member of Jpop idol boy band KAT-TUN from their debut until September 30, 2013 when his contract with Johnny & Associates was terminated. When he was a member of KAT-TUN, he was recognized as the rapper in the group and has a hip-hop-influenced style. Out of the other members, Tanaka was most often paired up with Yuichi Nakamaru and they even formed a comedy duo 'TaNaka'. After leaving Johnny & Associates, Tanaka formed a new rock band called INKT.

In music, an arrangement is a musical reconceptualization of a previously composed work. It may differ from the original work by means of reharmonization, melodic paraphrasing, orchestration, or development of the formal structure. Arranging differs from orchestration in that the latter process is limited to the assignment of notes to instruments for performance by an orchestra, concert band, or other musical ensemble. Arranging "involves adding compositional techniques, such as new thematic material for introductions, transitions, or modulations, and endings.. .. Arranging is the art of giving an existing melody musical variety".

Jin Akanishi is a Japanese musician, singer, songwriter and actor. He has been active since 1998, first as one of the two lead vocalists of the popular J-pop boy-band KAT-TUN. Since the group's official debut in 2006, they have achieved 14 consecutive number ones on the Oricon charts. In 2009, Akanishi started his solo career, and since then has released two studio albums, and two mini albums.

Promotion

Tatsuya Ueda and Yuichi Nakamaru first performed the song live when they were guests on Shounen Club on June 3, 2007. KAT-TUN as a whole went on to debut the song on their own variety show Cartoon KAT-TUN on June 6. Other subsequent performances on television include Music Station on June 8 and again on June 22. The group also performed "Your Side" during the latter guest appearance. The song was a part of KAT-TUN's 2007 summer nationwide tour set list and can be found on "Tour 2007 cartoon KAT-TUN II You" DVD which was filmed during their last tour date at the Tokyo Dome. The song was also sung as part of a medley performance on Music Station on December 21, 2007.

Tatsuya Ueda, is a Japanese idol, singer, and actor from the Japanese idol group KAT-TUN. Born in Kanagawa in Japan, he joined the Japanese talent agency, Johnny & Associates in 1998. In March 2006 he debuted as a member of the Japanese boy band KAT-TUN and is under Johnny & Associates management. The group's name was an acronym based on the first letter of each member's family name until the departure of Jin Akanishi in 2010, and Koki Tanaka in 2013. Junnosuke Taguchi left the band a well in 2016. After Tanaka's and Taguchi's withdrawal, Ueda took the T's for TaTsuya. As of 2016, KAT-TUN stands for Kazuya KAmenashi, TaTsuya Ueda, and Yuichi Nakamaru. Ueda is very athletic, and his favorite hobbies include Boxing and running.

Yūichi Nakamaru, is a Japanese idol, singer-songwriter, actor, television personality, radio host, and a member of KAT-TUN.

Shounen Club is a Japanese music variety show that airs on NHK BS Premium. The show premiered on NHK BS 2 on April 9, 2000 and continues to this day. Worldwide, it airs on NHK World Premium and TV Japan (US) as Pop Music Club

Chart performance and reception

In its first week of release, "Yorokobi no Uta" debuted at number 1 with 300,396 copies sold knocking off L'Arc-en-Ciel's "Seventh Heaven" from the top spot. It stayed on the charts for 5 weeks and has reportedly sold over 373,965 copies and was later certified Platinum by RIAJ denoting over 250,000 shipments.
