Zespri International Limited is the largest marketer of kiwifruit in the world, selling in over 50 countries. Its international headquarters is in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. [1] However, it has licensed growers in Australia, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, and South Korea, with trials in place in several other countries. Kiwifruit from New Zealand is available from May to October. To satisfy year-round consumer demand, Zespri markets kiwifruit from Italy from November to January.

Zespri was first established in 1988 under the name of the "New Zealand Marketing Board" before it formed as a co-operative of kiwifruit growers in New Zealand in 2000 and renamed itself "Zespri International Ltd."
Cuttings of Zespri Sungold Kiwifruit have been illegally smuggled to China, where they are competing with the “counterfeit” fruit grown in unauthorized orchards in the China market. [3]
Zespri's popularity has seen a recent increase in Australia, due largely in part to a marketing campaign containing two dancing and singing kiwifruit. [4]
In February 2023 Zespri said that they were planning on listing on the NZX later that year. Kiwifruit growers would still be the only people who could own Zespri shares. [5] [6]
The Kiwi Brothers are mascot characters of Zespri International Japan Co., Ltd. (Zespri's Japanese subsidiary). [7] A character unit based on Zespri's flagship product, kiwifruit. When they first appeared, there were two: Green, the Green Kiwi, and Gold, the Sungold Kiwi. Later, Red, the Ruby Red, joined them. Although they are called "Brothers," they are not actually brothers. [8]
Zespri previously used a character called "Zespri-kun," but in 2016, the Kiwi Brothers were introduced. [9] For the first two years, the characters were only available in Japan, but due to their popularity in Japan and the promotional effect of the characters success, Zespri began to expand overseas, and in 2018, the characters were used in promotions in the Netherlands, and in 2019, in South Korea and other countries. In April 2022, at the company's ceremony (commemorating the start of sales of this season's Kiwi), the Kiwi Brothers mascots performed a dance to "Kōjō no Tsuki", which caused a stir on social media. [12] New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern also attended the event and posed for a commemorative photo with the Brothers. [12] [13]
The Kiwifruit Breeding Centre is an even joint venture between Plant & Food Research and Zespri, based in Te Puke that commenced in October 2021. [14] [15] [16] It also operates out of Kerikeri, Motueka and Mt Albert. [17] It is a research and development centre focused on improving kiwifruit breeding and cultivation. The initial aims are to develop kiwifruit varieties that are healthier, better tasting, and more sustainable for the environment. [16] Matt Glenn is the inaugural CEO of the centre. [15]
Kiwifruit, or Chinese gooseberry, is the edible berry of several species of woody vines in the genus Actinidia. The most common cultivar group of kiwifruit is oval, about the size of a large hen's egg: 5–8 centimetres in length and 4.5–5.5 cm in diameter. Kiwifruit has a thin, fuzzy, fibrous, tart but edible, light brown skin and light green or golden flesh with rows of tiny, black, edible seeds. The fruit has a soft texture with a sweet and unique flavour.

Junya Ogawa is a Japanese politician of the Constitutional Democratic Party, and a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet. A native of Takamatsu, Kagawa and graduate of the University of Tokyo, he joined the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1994. Leaving the ministry in 2003, he ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives in the same year. Two years later, he ran again and lost for a second time. New Zealand developed the first commercially viable kiwifruit and developed export markets, creating the demand for the fruit that exists today. Today New Zealand is the third largest kiwifruit producing country, next to China and Italy, and holds approximately 30% of the market share. In the 2008–2009 season the value of New Zealand kiwifruit exports was NZ$1.45 billion.

SudannaYuzuYully is a Japanese dance-pop and hip-hop trio formed and managed by LDH since 2017. They are a sub-unit of supergroup E-girls and signed to the record label Rhythm Zone. The name of the group derives from each member's nickname: Anna Suda, Yuzuna and Yurino. This is the first group in which Yurino and Sudanna take on a different position than only being performers. All members are actively taking part in producing and writing the group's music and lyrics.
The Great Yokai War: Guardians is a 2021 Japanese fantasy adventure film directed by Takashi Miike. A sequel to The Great Yokai War, the film is the latest installation of the Yokai Monsters franchise, and was released in Japan on August 13, 2021, by Toho and Kadokawa. Among the film's cast of creatures is the title character from the 1966 Daiei film series Daimajin. Gamera, the iconic kaiju by Daiei also made a cameo appearance in the spinoff prequel, The Great Yokai War: Guardians Side Story Heian Hundred Demon Tale.

On 8 July 2022, Shinzo Abe, a former prime minister of Japan and serving member of the Japanese House of Representatives, was assassinated while speaking at a political event outside Yamato-Saidaiji Station in Nara City, Nara Prefecture. Abe was delivering a campaign speech for a Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) candidate when he was fatally shot by 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami with an improvised firearm. Abe was transported via medical helicopter to Nara Medical University Hospital in Kashihara, where he was pronounced dead.
