The Zug Stadtbahn (German : Stadtbahn Zug) is an S-Bahn-style commuter rail network centred on Zug, Switzerland.
Opened on 12 December 2004, the network forms part of the Central Switzerland S-Bahn project (German: S-Bahn Zentralschweiz), which also includes the Lucerne S-Bahn (German: S-Bahn Luzern).
As of 2019 [update] , the network consisted of the following lines:
Reconstruction of the railway line on the east side of Lake Zug led to the suspension of the S2 between Zug Oberwil and Arth-Goldau beginning on June 9, 2019. S2 services from Erstfeld will operate to Rotkreuz. [1] [2] S2 service was suspended altogether on 9 April 2020.
The trains acquired by the SBB-CFF-FFS to operate the S1 services on the Zug Stadtbahn are SBB-CFF-FFS RABe 523 class electric multiple units. [3] However, when the S1 was opened in 2004, there were not enough of these trains available to provide a full service, so they were supplemented by a Neuer Pendelzug (New Commuter Train) (NPZ), consisting of an SBB-CFF-FFS RBDe 560 hauling a B (second class car) owned by Thurbo as a Mittelwagen (intermediate car) and an NPZ Bt as a Steuerwagen (control car/cab car/driving trailer).
Additionally, Basel Regional S-Bahn trains were used to operate some services in 2008.
Since December 2008, all Zug Stadtbahn services have been operated by a fleet of twelve RABe 523s. [3]
The InterRegio, often shortened to IR, is a train service in use in some European countries with Swiss Federal Railways operating the most dense network. InterRegio trains are semi-fast long-distance trains with more stops and usually lower prices than more upscale long-distance trains such as the InterCity.

Erstfeld railway station is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Uri and municipality of Erstfeld. The station is situated on the original line of the Gotthard railway, at the foot of the ramp up to the Gotthard Tunnel. The original line, and the newer line through the Gotthard Base Tunnel meet at a junction some 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) north of, and downhill from, Erstfield station. Most trains on the Gotthard route now use the base tunnel and therefore do not pass through the station.
Altdorf railway station is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Uri and municipality of Altdorf. The station is situated on the Gotthard railway north of its crossing of the Alps, and is the most southerly station before that line splits into the older route via Erstfeld and the original Gotthard Tunnel, and the newer route via the Gotthard Base Tunnel. The station was reconstructed between 2019 and 2021.

The station is located on the Thalwil–Arth-Goldau railway and is an intermediate stop for InterRegio trains from Zürich to Lucerne and on Zürich S-Bahn line S24. It is also the northern terminus of the Zug Stadtbahn S1 line.
The Thalwil–Arth-Goldau railway is a Swiss railway that acts as a feeder route to the Gotthard Railway. It was opened for this purpose on 1 June 1897, with the Thalwil–Zug section owned by the Swiss Northeastern Railway and the Zug–Arth-Goldau section owned by the GB. Since the nationalisation of the GB in 1909, the entire route has belonged to the Swiss Federal Railways.
