Al-Hikmah University is an Islamic university located in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. It was founded in 2005 by AbdulRaheem Oladimeji Islamic Foundation (AROIF) based in Nigeria and World Assembly of Muslim Youths (WAMY) based in Jeddah. [1] Muhammed Taofeek Olalekan Ibrahim [2] is the immediate past Vice-chancellor. He was succeeded by Noah Yusuf [1] who is now the current Vice-chancellor. The goal of Al-Hikmah University is to be a center of intellectual and moral excellence.

The University came into existence via the granting of an operating license to run as a Conventional Private University by the Federal Government of Nigeria License No. 010 on 7 January 2005. It commenced academic activities during the 2005–2006 academic session with 70 students spread across the three take-off colleges: Humanities, Management Sciences and Natural Sciences.

Collaborations/initiative

Al-Hikmah University has collaborated with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to counter act drug abuse especially amongst youth. Also with the Economic and Financial crime commission Agency. [7]

Green campus initiative

August 2023 the university begins a green campus, in the school,the initiate deals with planting of three and environmental climate change. [8]

Convocation

On the 9th of December the university hold is 13th convocation ceremony in which 1584 students are graduated from the school. [9]

Scholarship

On the 13th convocation ceremony of the school the speaker,of the event announces sponsorship for females indigent students of the school.

University of Ilorin, also known as Unilorin, is a federal government-owned university in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. It was established by a decree of the federal military government in August, 1975. The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan, which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower, which is vital for the rapidly expanding economy. Compared to other higher institutions of learning in the country, the institution has one of the largest land areas, covering approximately 15,000 hectares of land. It is reported by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) to be the most sought-after Nigerian university in 2021. And again in 2023, it was announced by the JAMB Head, Professor Ishaq Oloyede to be the sought-after University, for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), making it for the 10th consecutive year.

Igbaja is a community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria, at an elevation of 349 m. It is about 40 km southeast of Ilorin, and is in Igbomina country. The Ilorin Provincial Gazetteer (1918) dates the settlement of Igbaja as late 17th or early 18th century, while the Igbaja District Gazetteer (1933–35) puts it about 1750 AD.

Kisi is a large town in Oyo State, Nigeria. It is the headquarters of the Irepo Local Government Area. Kishi, is located at the northern part of Oyo State. Kisi is very close to old Katunga which collapsed in the 18th century as a result of Jihad activity by the Hausa/Fulani of Ilorin, Kwara State. Kisi is reputed as a town whose people were never conquered or defeated in battles, hence many people from old Oyo migrated and settled in Kishi during and after the Fulani Jihadist invasion. Zakariyau Idrees-Oboh Oseni, is a prominent Arabic and Islamic Studies Scholar, an Imam and a poet from Nigeria. He was trained at the University of Ibadan where he obtained a Certificate in Arabic & Islamic Studies (1971), B. A. First Class Hons. in Arabic Language and Literature (1977), M. A. in Arabic & Islamic Studies (1980) and PhD. in Arabic Language & Literature (1984). He has over 33 years' experience in lecturing in Arabic Studies and aspects of Islamic Studies. He has over 100 publications in Arabic, Islamic Studies and Literature out of which are three collections of poems in English, three plays and a collection of short stories in Arabic, and a collection of Afenmai Proverbs translated and annotated. He is an editorial consultant to fifteen academic journals in Nigeria and beyond. He was the Head of the multidisciplinary Department of Religions (1997–1999) and the Department of Arabic (2008–2009), University of Ilorin. Not only that, but he served as a Visiting Professor and Head, Department of Languages, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, from October 2011 to October 2012. He also served as the Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, Ilorin from 2009 to 2011. He is currently the Head of Department of Arabic, University of Ilorin. Furthermore, he is the Chief Imam and Waziri of Auchi. Moreover, he is a Fellow of Arabic Studies, Nigeria (FASN), Fellow of the Academy of Religion (FAR) and member of the Consultative Committee of 'Ulama' under the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs. Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin was established in September 1974 by the Kwara State Government. The College is located in the ancient city of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari ascended the throne as the 11th Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council since 1995 following the demise of his uncle, Mallam Aliyu AbdulKadir. He relinquished his position as the Presiding Justice of Court of Appeal, Lagos Division to become the Custodian of the Shehu Alimi dynasty. He is one of the 10 prominent traditional rulers in northern Nigeria.

Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies Ilorin, was established by the Kwara State Government through an act in 1992. The college is one out of 4 that are affiliated to the Bayero University in Kano, Nigeria.

Lenrie Olatokunbo Aina is a professor of Library and Information Science, and former National Librarian/Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria (NLN) Abuja.

Adenike Temidayo Oladiji is a Nigerian academic and the first female vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure. Her appointment was ratified by the governing council of the institution at its special meeting held on 13 May 2022. She succeeded professor Joseph Fuwape, whose term ended on Monday 23 May 2022. Prior to her appointment, she held various positions and served on University Committees in the University of Ilorin as Chairman and Member.

Razaq Deremi Abubakre is former vice-chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. He is former Vice-Chancellor and Federal Commissioner for the Public Complaints Commission between 2012 and 2018. He was also a former chairman, College of Education, Ila Orangun, Osun State and former Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin. He did his PhD in Arabic literature at the School of Oriental and African Studies, the University of London from 1977 to 1980 on Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan. He was National President of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria. He graduated with a first-class degree. He also served as professor of Arabic Language and Literature.

Kayode Egbetokun, is a Nigerian police officer who is the current and 22nd Inspector General of Police. He was appointed by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to replace Usman Alkali Baba.
