Yola, meaning 'Great Plain' or 'Vast Plain Land', is a large city, capital city and administrative centre of Adamawa State, Nigeria. It is located on the Benue River, and it has a population of over 336,648 (2010). Yola is split into two parts. The old town of Yola where the Lamido resides is the traditional city and the new city of Jimeta is the administrative and commercial centre. They are generally referred to as Yola.
Adamawa State is a state in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered by Borno to the northwest, Gombe to the west for 95 km, and Taraba to the southwest for about 366 km, while its eastern border forms part of the national border with Cameroon across the Atlantica Mountains for about 712 km. It takes its name from the historic emirate of Adamawa, with the emirate's old capital of Yola, serving as the capital city of Adamawa state. The state is one of the most heterogeneous in Nigeria, with over 100 indigenous ethnic groups. It was formed in 1991, when the former Gongola state was divided into Adamawa and Taraba states. Since it was carved out of the old Gongola State in 1991 by the General Ibrahim Badamsi Babangida military regime, Adamawa State has had 10 men, both military and civilian, controlling the levers of power, who played crucial roles in transforming the state into what it is today.
The Adamawa Emirate is a traditional state located in Fombina, an area which now roughly corresponds to areas of Adamawa State and Taraba state in Nigeria, and previously also in the three northern regions of Cameroon, including minor Parts of Chad and the Central African Republic.

American University of Nigeria The American University of Nigeria (AUN) is a private university in Yola the capital of Adamawa, Nigeria. It offers an American-style liberal arts higher education at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. Founded in 2003, AUN, Africa’s first “Development University,” is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Its current faculty numbers 93, its undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 1500 students. It is known as the first American-style university in Sub-Saharan Africa. AUN is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Adamawa State Polytechnic is a tertiary educational institution in Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria. It was established in 1991 through a merger of the College of Preliminary Studies Yola and the Staff Development Institute, Numan. The new polytechnic provides national diploma programs in computer science, statistics, accountancy, business studies and secretarial studies. The polytechnic, run by the State government, is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education. The institution has become affiliated with the University of Maiduguri for the purpose of running degree programmes.
Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha was turbaned on 18 March 2010 as the traditional ruler, title Lamido of Adamawa in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The ceremony followed by the approval of the state governor Murtala Nyako.

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL) is a university in Niger State, central Nigeria. It had its first convocation in 2014. It was named after the former Nigeria Head of State General Ibrahim Babangida. The university started academic activities in the 2005/2006 academic session.

University of Cross River State also known as UNICROSS is a state-owned tertiary institution with four campuses spread across four Local Government Areas of the state. The University was formerly known as the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH). It was renamed in February of 2021 by a bill passed at Cross River State House of Assembly which was then approved by the former Governor of the State, Benedict Ayade. The change of the tertiary institution's name was to enable the varsity function as a conventional University, which provides the opportunity to offer more professional courses rather focusing on tech-related courses. The present Vice Chancellor of the institution is Prof Augustine Angba.
Zubairu, Zubeiru orZubayru bin Adama was a ruler of the Adamawa Emirate founded by his father, Modibo Adama. By the time he came to the throne in 1890, the emirate was threatened by the Germans, French and English. Zubairu attempted "a hopeless, though spirited, rearguard action" against European attrition of the emirate.
Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, also known as Binani, is a Nigerian politician and entrepreneur who was the senator for Adamawa Central from 2019 to 2023. On 30 March 2020, she was appointed Gimbiyar Adamawa by the Adamawa Emirate Council.
Modibbo Raji was a 19th-century Fulani Islamic scholar who was part of the community of Usman Dan Fodio, founder of the Sokoto Caliphate, and his brother Abdullahi dan Fodio. After a long career as a teacher, Qadi, Naib and Wazir (vizier) in the Gwandu Emirate under his mentor Abdullahi dan Fodio and his successors, Modibbo Raji emigrated in the 1850s and eventually settled in Adamawa. He is generally regarded as the founder of the Islamic scholarly tradition in Adamawa as well as one of the earliest exponents of the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect in the Sokoto Caliphate. He died c. 1865 and was buried in Yola leaving behind his writings both in Arabic and Fulfulde, and a large scholarly community of his sons, daughters, students and associates.
Salihu Mustafa, FNSE, FAENG, FNAHS, FAS, is a Nigerian academic, professor of civil engineering and former Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Yola (FUTY), Yola, Adamawa State, Nigeria. He has taught in many universities in Nigeria and is currently a visiting professor to Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero and Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. He is married to Hajiya Fatima and they have four children.
The 2019 Nigerian House of Representatives elections in Adamawa State was held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the House of Representatives to represent Adamawa State, Nigeria.
Kaletapwa George Farauta is a Nigerian professor and politician, who is the current deputy governor of Adamawa State since 2023. She was the vice chancellor of Adamawa State University, Mubi from 2017 to 2022. She is a former Adamawa State commissioner of education and executive chairman of Universal basic education.
