The era of Kannada newspapers in Karnataka started in 1843 when Hermann Mögling, a missionary from Basel Mission, published the first Kannada newspaper, Mangalooru Samachara , from Mangalore. [1] The first Kannada magazine, Mysuru Vrittanta Bodhini, was started by Bhashyam Bhashyacharya in Mysore. [2] Shortly after Indian Independence in 1948, K.N. Guruswamy started the company The Printers, Mysore Pvt. Ltd. publishing two newspapers Deccan Herald (in English) and Prajavani (in Kannada). [3] [4] Times of India is the largest selling English newspaper in Karnataka. [5] Tabloids including Lankesh Patrike and Hai Bangalore Adi Jambava Jagruti emphasize controversial topics. [6] Sudharma , [7] the only daily newspaper published in Sanskrit in India, is printed and distributed from Mysore.
Udaya TV was the first satellite channel to broadcast in Kannada. [8]
All India Radio started in Mysore, and has been functional in Bangalore since 1955. [9] Radio City FM was the first private radio station in Karnataka, beginning broadcasting in 2001.
Karnataka, formerly Mysore State, is a state in the southwestern region of India. It was formed as Mysore State on 1 November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act, and renamed Karnataka in 1973. The state was part of the Carnatic region in British terminology. Mysore district, officially Mysuru district is an administrative district located in the southern part of the state of Karnataka, India. It is the administrative headquarters of Mysore division.Chamarajanagar District was carved out of the original larger Mysore District in the year 1998. The History of Karnataka goes back several millennia. Buses, cars and trains are the means of transport for moving across distant places in Karnataka. For transportation within the city or town limits; motorbikes, cars, autorickshaws and buses are used. With the advent of low-cost airlines, many people are choosing to travel via air as well.
Chondimukhed is a village belonging to the Aurad Taluk of Bidar district in the state of Karnataka, India. It is the only exclave of the state of Karnataka. Though belonging to the state of Karnataka, Chondimukhed village is surrounded by Maharashtra on all the sides.

Hermann Friedrich Mögling (1811–1881), also spelt Herrmann Friedrich Moegling, was a German missionary from the Basel Mission who spent most of his career in the western regions of the state of Karnataka, India. He is credited as the publisher of the first ever newspaper in the Kannada language called as Mangalooru Samachara in 1843. He was awarded a doctorate for his literary work in Kannada called as Bibliotheca Carnataca. He also translated Kannada literature into German. Mögling is acknowledged by Kannada writers and linguists as the first modern Kannada writer, as he produced nearly 36 literary works, considered to be ground-breaking and exceptional Kannada literature, in a short period of 20 years.
Karanji Lake is a lake located in the city of Mysore in the state of Karnataka, India. The lake is surrounded by a nature park consisting of a butterfly park and a walk-through aviary. This aviary is the biggest 'walk-through aviary' in India. There is also a museum, the Regional Museum of Natural History which is located on the banks of this lake. The total area of Karanji lake is 90 hectares. While waterspread area is about 55 hectares, the foreshore area measures about 35 hectares. Karanji lake is owned by the Mysore Zoo Authority. Mysore Zoo gets a revenue of an average of Rs. 50000 per day from ticket sales to enthusiasts who visit this lake.

Sudharma is the daily newspaper printed in Sanskrit in India. The paper is published from the city of Mysore in the Indian state of Karnataka. Established in 1970, the paper is mainly distributed via mail, a method that its founder resorted to when news vendors refused to stock his paper.
