Narsingh Dev Jamwal (born 1931) is an Indian writer and playwright from Jammu, [1] who has authored 48 books, [2] including Sanjhi Dharti Bakhle Mahnu (novel), which won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1978. [3] He received India's fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri (2019) for his contribution in the field of literature and education. [4]
He was born in 1931 in Bhalwal. Jamwal completed his matriculation in 1945. On 23 October 1947, he was part of Subedar Duni Chand's platoon at "Battle of Garhi" led by Rajinder Singh (brigadier) and was jailed in Pakistan as POW (prisoner of war) only to be released a year later. [5] He joined the Jammu & Kashmir Police in 1953. [2] He also holds a master's degree in Dogri from Jammu University. [3]
In 1978, Narsingh Dev was honoured with a Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel in Dogri language, Sanjhi Dharti Bakhle Mahnu. [6] In 2008, he was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Indian theatre as a playwright. [3] [7]

Moti Lal Kemmu is an Indian contemporary playwright from Jammu and Kashmir. He was born in Srinagar into a Kashmiri Pandit family and attended Jammu and Kashmir University. His plays include Nagar Udas, Teen Asangati Aikanki (1968), Lal Drayas Lol Re (1972), Trunove (1970), Tshai (1973), Natak Truche (1980), Tota Tol Aina (1985).

Jamwal is a toponymic surname for a Dogra Rajput clan of the same name from Jammu, in Jammu and Kashmir, India. They claim descent from the traditional founder of Jammu, Jambu Lochan, and there at one time some of their members were rulers of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, often referred to as the Dogra dynasty.
Raj Begum was a Kashmiri singer. She was also known as the Melody Queen of Kashmir. She was honoured with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and India's fourth highest civilian award the Padma Shri in 2002. Begum was born in Srinagar in 1927 and died in 2016, aged 89.
Rajkumar Singhajit Singh, is a leading exponent, choreographer and a guru of Indian classical dance form of Manipuri, including the Pung cholom and Raslila. He was awarded with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1984 and the Padma Shri in 1986 for his contribution to the Manipuri dance. In the year 2011, Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's The National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama, awarded him with its highest award, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship for his contribution to Indian Dance. Padma Sachdev was an Indian poet and novelist. She was the first modern woman poet of the Dogri language. She also wrote in Hindi. She published several poetry collections, including Meri Kavita Mere Geet, which won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971. She also received the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award in 2001, and the Kabir Samman for poetry for the year 2007-08 given by Government of Madhya Pradesh, Saraswati Samman for the year 2015, Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 2019.

Khumanthem Ningol Nameirakpam Ongbi Ibemni Devi was an Indian singer of traditional music, known for her expertise in the Khongjom Praba genre of Manipuri music. The Government of India honoured Ibemni Devi in 2012, with the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri.
Daji Bhatawadekar, was an Indian theatre personality and film and television actor. He was credited with the revival of Sanskrit and Marathi theatre in India. Ningthoukhongjam Khelchandra Singh was an Indian writer, lexicographer and historian, known as the author of Manipuri to Manipuri and English, the first modern general dictionary in Meitei language, which was published in 1964. He was a fellow of the Sahitya Akademi and Sangeet Natak Akademi. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of Padma Shri in 1987.
