The third session

The third session was scheduled for March 5, 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first time such a postponement had happened in decades. After the announcement of the date in April, the session was held from May 22 to May 28, 2020. [4]

The National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party is a party congress that is held every five years. The National Congress is theoretically the highest body within the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Since 1987 the National Congress has been held in the months of October or November. The venue for the event, beginning in 1956, is the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The Congress is the public venue for top-level leadership changes in the CCP and the formal event for changes to the Party's Constitution. In the past two decades the National Congress of the CCP has been pivotal at least as a symbolic part of leadership changes, and therefore has gained international media attention.

Cao Jianming is a Chinese retired politician who served as a vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress from 2018 to 2023. Previously, he was the Procurator-General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of the People's Republic of China.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Luo Zhijun</span> Chinese politician (1951–2023)

Luo Zhijun was a Chinese politician. He was serving as Chairperson of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee from 16 March 2018 to 13 March 2023. He was vice-chairperson of the National People's Congress Environment Protection and Resources Conservation Committee from July 2016 until March 2018. He was the former Communist Party Secretary of Jiangsu, and prior to that the provincial governor. He died on 1 April 2023 at the age of 72.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Wang Dongming</span> Chinese politician

Wang Dongming is a Chinese politician who has served since 2018 as the Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and the Chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. Originally from Liaoning province, Wang served as the chief of the General Office of the Central Institutional Organization Commission between 2007 and 2012, and the Communist Party Secretary of Sichuan province between 2012 and 2018.

Chang Xiaobing is a Chinese former business executive. He served as the chairman of China Unicom from 2004 to 2015, and the chairman of China Telecom in 2015. On December 27, 2015, Chang was placed under investigation by the Communist Party's anti-corruption agency. He is the first head of telecommunications in China implicated since the beginning of Xi Jinping's anti-corruption drive after he took power in late 2012.

Cai Dafeng is a Chinese politician and architect currently serving as chairperson of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (2017–present) and Vice Chairperson of the 13th National People's Congress Standing Committee (2018–present).

Wang Bin is a former Chinese business executive and senior economist who served as chairman and party secretary of China Life Insurance Company from 2018 to 2022 and chairman and party secretary of China Taiping Insurance Group Limited from 2012 to 2018. As of January 2022 he was under investigation by China's top anti-corruption agency. He was a representative of the 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party and a member of the Social and Legal Affairs Committee of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

He Junke is a Chinese executive and politician, currently serving as party branch secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology since May 2023. He previously served as first secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and director of the National Working Committee of the Young Pioneers of China.
