<span class="mw-page-title-main">Nepali Congress</span> Social democratic political party in Nepal

The Nepali Congress is a social democratic political party in Nepal and become the largest party in the country. The party has 870,106 members as of the party's 14th general convention in December 2021, making it the largest party by membership in Nepal. In June 2023, the party started online membership since the emergence of youth leaders in vital posts to attract youths to the party. The party is led by former prime minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba since the party's thirteenth general convention in 2016. The party won 89 seats in the 2022 general election and is currently the largest parliamentary group in the House of Representatives.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre)</span> Political party in Nepal

The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) (Nepali: नेपाल कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी (माओवादी केन्द्र)), abbreviated CPN (Maoist Centre) or CPN (MC), is the third largest political party in Nepal and a member party of Samajbadi Morcha. It was founded in 1994 after breaking away from the Communist Party of Nepal (Unity Centre). The party launched an armed struggle in 1996 against the Nepalese government. In 2006, the party formally joined mainstream politics after signing a peace agreement following the 2006 Nepalese revolution.

Nepal Ratna Girija Prasad Koirala, affectionately known as Girija Babu, was a Nepalese politician. He headed the Nepali Congress and served as the Prime Minister of Nepal on four occasions: from 1991 to 1994, 1998 to 1999, 2000 to 2001, and 2006 to 2008. He was the Acting Head of State of Nepal between January 2007 and July 2008 as the country transitioned from a monarchy to a republic.

Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, better known as B. P. Koirala, was a Nepali revolutionary, political leader, and writer. He was the Prime Minister of Nepal from 1959 to 1960. He led the Nepali Congress, a social democratic political party. He was the grandfather of Bollywood actors Manisha Koirala and Siddharth Koirala, the elder brother of former prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala and the younger brother of former prime minister Matrika Prasad Koirala.

Laxmi Prasad Devkota (1909-1959) was a Nepalese poet, playwright, novelist, and politician. Honored with the title of Mahakabi in Nepali literature, he was known as a poet with a golden heart, and is considered one of the most famous literary figures in Nepal. Some of his popular works include the best-selling Muna Madan, along with Sulochana, Kunjini, Bhikhari, and Shakuntala.

General elections were held in Nepal on 12 May 1991, to elect 205 members to the House of Representatives. The elections were the first multi-party elections since 1959. The 1990 Nepalese revolution successfully made King Birendra to restore a multi-party system after King Mahendra had established the Rastriya Panchayat when he dissolved the parliament in December 1960.

Bishnu Prasad Paudel is a Nepalese politician, who is the vice-chairman of Communist Party of Nepal. Paudel served as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the Third Dahal cabinet. He has earlier served as Deputy Prime Minister (2021), and headed other prominent Ministries such as Finance, Home Affairs (2021), Industry (2021), Water and Defence (2011).

Bahun, also known as Hill Brahmins, are a Brahmin varna among the Khas of Nepal. They are Sub caste of the Kanyakubja Brahmin while their origins are from Kannauj and the Himalayan belt of South Asia. According to the 2011 Nepal census, Bahun is the second most populous group after Chhetri.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">1959 Nepalese general election</span>

General elections were held in Nepal from 18 February to 3 April 1959 to elect the 109 members of the first House of Representatives, the lower house of the Parliament of Nepal. They were held under the provisions of the 1959 constitution, which had been adopted on 12 February. More than 4.25 million people out of an overall population of about 8.55 million (1954) were eligible to vote. Voter turnout was 42.18%.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">BP Koirala cabinet</span>

Bisheshwar Prasad Koirala formed the first elected government of Nepal on 27 May 1959. After the 1951 democratic movement, several transitional governments failed to hold the first general elections in the country until an interim government under Subarna SJB Rana held the 1959 general elections in two phases on 18 February and 3 April 1959. Nepali Congress gained a majority in the 1st House of Representatives of Nepal and Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala was elected as the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress on 4 May 1959. On 16 May 1959, Koirala was invited by King Mahendra to form a government and the cabinet was formed on 27 May 1959. The cabinet was reshuffled just over a month later on 30 June 1959.

Events in the year 2021 in Nepal.

The first Bagmati Provincial Assembly was elected by the 2017 provincial elections in Nepal. 110 members were elected to the assembly, 66 of whom were elected through direct elections and 44 of whom were elected through the party list proportional representation system. The term of the assembly started on 1 February 2018 and ended in September 2022. Dormani Poudel and Astalaxmi Shakya served as the chief ministers from the CPN (UML) and Rajendra Prasad Pandey served as chief minister from CPN during the term of the assembly. Sanu Kumar Shrestha served as the speaker of the assembly and Radhika Tamang served as the deputy speaker.
