The 1984 European Rallycross Championship season was the ninth season of the FIA European Rallycross Championship under that name and the twelfth season overall since it began as the Embassy/ERA European Rallycross Championship. It was held across nine rounds starting at the Nordring in Austria on April 8 and ending at the Lyngås Motorbane in Norway on October 7.
The champions were Anders Norstedt (Division 1) and Martin Schanche (Division 2). Schanche won six of the nine rounds on the Division 2 schedule to guarantee himself the title. In Division 1 Norstedt had an equal number of wins to his closest title rival Lars Nyström. The highest placed driver with no wins in any class was Olle Arnesson, the Division 2 third-placer.

Rallycross is a form of sprint style automobile racing, held on a closed mixed-surface racing circuit, with modified production or specially built road cars, similar to the World Rally Cars. It is mainly popular in the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Great Britain. An inexpensive, entry level type of rallycross is the Swedish folkrace or its Norwegian counterpart, the so-called bilcross. The folkrace is most popular in Finland where it was founded back in the late 1960s. In Europe, rallycross can also refer to racing 1:8 scale off-road radio-controlled buggies.
Lydden Hill Race Circuit is a motorsport venue in Denton with Wootton, about half-way between Canterbury and Dover in Kent, England. The mile-long circuit is mainly used for Rallycross, Drift, Saloon and Sports car racing as well as Motorcycle racing.

Martin Schanche, nicknamed "Mister Rallycross", is a Norwegian former racing driver and politician.
Tommy Rustad is a Norwegian racing driver. He currently drives in the FIA European Rallycross Championship and occasionally in the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Tommy is the son of former well known Norwegian racer Ola Rustad.
Johan David Kristoffersson is a Swedish racecar driver. He is a six time World Rallycross Champion having won the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. In 2018 he won a record breaking 11 out of 12 events in the championship. He is the son of former racing driver and Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS) team owner Tommy Kristoffersson. He also won the Superstars Series championship in 2012, the same year in which he claimed the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship and Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia titles.

Svend Kenneth Hansen is a Swedish rallycross driver with Danish roots. His late father, Svend Hansen, can be regarded as the inventor of the so-called Joker Lap for rallycross. Hansen has been part of the European rallycross elite since the late 1980s and has won an FIA European Championships for Rallycross Drivers title no less than 14 times up until the year 2008. He holds most of the records for rallycross, including the amount (249) of attended European rounds.
