The 1987 European Judo Championships were the seventeenth edition of the European Judo Championships, held in Paris, France, from 7 to 10 May 1987. [1] Medallists included Irene de Kok, [2] Ingrid Berghmans, [3] and Grigory Verichev. [4]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Robert Van de Walle</span> Belgian judoka

Robert Van de Walle is a retired Belgian judoka. He was the first judoka to ever compete at five Olympics, from 1976 to 1992. Competing in the half-heavyweight category he won the gold medal in 1980 and a bronze in 1988 at the age of 34. Van de Walle won European titles in 1980, 1985 and 1986. Together with Ingrid Berghmans he was the face of Belgian judo in the late 1970s and 1980s. After retiring from competitions he ran a coaching company together with his wife. He was the head of the Belgian delegation at the 2004 Summer Olympics. In summer 2021, 14 years after obtaining the rank of black belt 8th dan; Van De Walle, currently a member of Judo Club Crossing Schaerbeek, accepted his promotion to 9th dan from the International Judo Federation.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">World Judo Championships</span> Judo competition

The World Judo Championships are the highest level of international judo competition, along with the Olympic judo competition. The championships are held once every year by the International Judo Federation, and qualified judoka compete in their respective categories as representatives of their home countries. Team competitions have also been held since 1994. The men's championships began in 1956, though the format and periodicity of the championships have changed over time. The last edition of the championships took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in 2024.

Ingrid Berghmans, also known as Ingrid Vallot, is a judoka from Belgium who has eight times been named Belgian Sportswoman of the Year. A former world title holder, she is also an Olympic competitor. She won the gold medal in the –72 kg class at the 1988 Summer Olympics, where women's judo appeared as a demonstration sport for the first time.

Marc Vallot was one of several highly talented Belgian -78 kg judoka from Belgium during the 1980s and early 1990s. He probably gained more international fame though through his marriage to legendary 6-fold world champion women's judo Ingrid Berghmans.

Teddy Pierre-Marie Riner is a French judoka. He has won eleven World Championships gold medals, the first and only judoka to do so, and three Olympic gold medals. He has also won five gold medals at the European Championships. He was a member of the Levallois Sporting Club before joining Paris Saint-Germain in August 2017.

Irene Margreta Maria de Kok is a retired judoka from the Netherlands, who is a two-fold world-champion and represented Netherlands at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.

Laetitia Meignan is a retired judoka from France, who represented her native country at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, where she won a bronze medal in the women's half-heavyweight division (‍–‍72 kg), alongside Irene de Kok from the Netherlands.

Grigory Vladimirovich Verichev was a Russian judoka who competed for the Soviet Union at the 1988 Summer Olympics, where he won a bronze medal in the heavyweight class.

Paris Saint-Germain Judo, commonly known as PSG Judo, is a French professional judo club based in the city of Paris in France. It is the judo department of parent club Paris Saint-Germain. Having already existed between 1992 and 2003, the section was refounded in 2017. Their home ground is the CMG Dojo, located inside the CMG One Italie sports complex. It houses the training facilities of the professional judokas but also the club's youth system, the Paris Saint-Germain Academy Judo.
