The 2002 MTV Europe Music Awards were held at Palau Sant Jordi, Barcelona.
Performances included a rendition of "Dirrty" from Christina Aguilera featuring Redman as they performed in a boxing ring with Aguilera sporting leather chaps. Whitney Houston, Pink, Bon Jovi and Foo Fighters each performed as did Coldplay and Eminem, both making their EMA debut.
Winners on the night included Jennifer Lopez, taking Best Female for the second year running.

The Europe Music Awards are held every year in a different country; it has been hosted mostly in the United Kingdom and Germany. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by prominent artists, and the presentation of those awards that have a more popular interest.

In 1993, she received a BRIT Award for "Stay" by Shakespears Sister. She won another MTV Award in 1997 for "Don't Speak" by No Doubt. Muller is a longtime collaborator of Sade, Annie Lennox, Gwen Stefani, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Garbage and Shakespears Sister.

It was formerly known as Best Selling Album (Foreign or Domestic) (1993–2002), Best Selling Album by a Foreign Artist (1992), International Album of the Year (1981–1991), and Best Selling International Album (1975–1980). Thus, the rules have changed slightly over the years. (Céline Dion, a Canadian won in 1999, 1997 & 1995 and Bryan Adams, also a Canadian won in 1993.)
"Dirrty" is a song by American singer Christina Aguilera featuring American rapper Redman, released as the lead single from her fourth studio album Stripped. Despite Aguilera's first three years of commercial success, she was displeased with the lack of control over her image. In response, she desired to create a song that would represent her authentic persona. She approached hip hop producer Rockwilder and suggested using Redman's 2001 song "Let's Get Dirty " as a guide. The final result, "Dirrty", is an R&B and hip hop song that also features rapping verses from Redman and describes sexual activities.

Now That's What I Call the 00s is a special edition of the (UK) Now! series, released on 15 February 2010. The three-CD set has 60 hits from the 2000s. This compilation is notable as it features Madonna who is well known for not normally allowing her songs to be licensed on Now! compilations. Her music is conspicuously missing from all volumes of the regular Now That's What I Call Music! series. The only other Now! appearances by Madonna in the Now canon is on Now That's What I Call 30 Years (2013) and Now That's What I Call Legends (2014), both of which include "Into The Groove", and also Now That's What I Call Pride (2022), which includes "God Control".
