The 2005 election for mayor of Chattogram City Corporation was held on 12 May 2005.The result was a victory again for the Bangladesh Awami League candidate A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury. He beat Mir Mohammed Nasiruddin, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party's candidate and previous Mayor who was appointed to his post. [1]

Asif Mohiuddin is a Bangladeshi atheist and secular activist, religious critic and feminist. In 2012, he won The Bobs-Best of Online Activism award from Deutsche Welle, who stated that "Asif's blog was one of the most read web pages in Bangladesh and is known for its strong criticism of Islamic fundamentalism in Bangladesh's "anti-people politics", his blog was later blocked and banned in Bangladesh by its government. On 15 January 2013, he survived an assassination attempt by Islamic extremists. A few months later, he was imprisoned twice by the Bangladesh Government for posting "offensive comments about Islam and Mohammad". Due to sustained international pressure, Mohiuddin was released, after which he fled from his country to Germany in 2014. In 2015, he received the Anna Politkovskaya Prize for Journalism, awarded by Italian magazine Internazionale.

Begum Monsura Mohiuddin was a Jatiya Party (Ershad) politician and the former Member of Parliament of Nilphamari-1. She was the eldest daughter of former Senior Minister Mashiur Rahman and sister of former cabinet minister Shawfikul Ghaani Shapan. She was married to former diplomat and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations A. H. G. Mohiuddin. She died on 25 November 2021.

Mohiuddin Ahmed is a politician from Barisal District of Bangladesh. He was elected a member of parliament from Bakerganj-10 and Barisal-4 (Bakerganj-4).

Syed Taher Ahmed was a professor of geology and mining at the University of Rajshahi in Bangladesh who was missing on 1 February 2006 and was found dead two days later. Ahmed, aged 58, was a senior member of the planning committee that evaluates application of teachers for promotion. In 2005, his junior colleague and once a close friend, Mia Mohammad Mohiuddin, applied for promotion to full professor. Ahmed discovered inconsistencies in the application; Mohiuddin had not served the required 12-year-academic service, and more critically, had plagiarised and pirated ten of the eleven research papers he submitted. Mohiuddin's fate was to be decided by the planning committee on 2 February 2006. With his career was at stake, Mohiuddin hired Jahangir Alam, caretaker of the university's quarters. Alam, assisted by his brother Abdus Salam and brother-in-law Nazmul, killed Ahmed in the night of 1 February 2006.
