The 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship was the 63rd season of FIA Formula One motor racing. It featured the 60th Formula One World Championship which was contested over 17 events commencing with the Australian Grand Prix on 29 March and ending with the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 1 November.
The 2008 Australian Drivers' Championship was a CAMS sanctioned national motor racing title which was contested concurrently with the 2008 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship. The championship winner was awarded the 2008 CAMS Gold Star. The 2008 championship was the 52nd Australian Drivers' Championship and the fourth to be contested with open wheel racing cars constructed in accordance with FIA Formula 3 regulations. The season began on 3 February 2008 at Eastern Creek Raceway and finished on 21 September at Symmons Plains Raceway after eight rounds across four different states with two races per round.
CRS Racing is a British auto racing team founded by British driver Andrew Kirkaldy and Canadian-Greek driver and entrepreneur Chris Niarchos. The team was founded in 2007, but is based on the former team of Kirkaldy known as Team AKA which competed in the British Formula Renault Championship starting in 2004. Niarchos, founder of the Cobra Group, sponsored and then partnered with Kirkaldy's team before it was reformed in 2007 in order to expand beyond Formula Renault to enter the European FIA GT Championship and British GT Championship.
The 2009 Valencia Formula Two round was the first round of the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship season. It was held on 30 and 31 May 2009 at Circuit de Valencia at Valencia, Spain. The first race was won by Robert Wickens, with Carlos Iaconelli and Kazim Vasiliauskas also on the podium. The second race was again won by Robert Wickens, with Mirko Bortolotti and Philipp Eng also on the podium.
The 2009 Brno Formula Two round was the second round of the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship season. It was held on 20 and 21 June 2009 at Masaryk Circuit at Brno, Czech Republic. The first race was won by Mirko Bortolotti, with Mikhail Aleshin and Philipp Eng also on the podium. The second race was won by Andy Soucek, with Julien Jousse and Nicola de Marco also on the podium.
The 2009 Brands Hatch Formula Two round was the fourth round of the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship season. It was held on 18 and 19 July 2009 at Brands Hatch at Kent, United Kingdom. The first race was won by Philipp Eng, with Andy Soucek and Henry Surtees also on the podium. The second race was won by Andy Soucek, with Robert Wickens and Mikhail Aleshin also on the podium. The round was overshadowed by the fatal accident suffered by Henry Surtees in second race. Surtees was hit on the head by a wheel from the car of Jack Clarke after Clarke spun into the wall exiting Westfield Bend. The wheel broke its tether and bounced back across the track into the following group of cars and collided with Surtees' helmet. The car continued straight ahead into the barrier on the approach to Sheene Curve, also losing a wheel, and came to rest at the end of the curve with its remaining rear wheel still spinning. This indicated that Surtees had lost consciousness, with his foot still pressing the accelerator. Surtees was extricated from the car and taken to the circuit's medical centre, where he was stabilised before being transferred to the Royal London Hospital. His death was attributed to severe head injuries, inflicted by colliding with the wheel rather than the following crash with the barriers, and was announced later that day.
The 2009 Donington Formula Two round was the fifth round of the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship season. It was held on 16 August 2009 at Donington Park in North West Leicestershire, United Kingdom. The first race was won by Andy Soucek, with Mikhail Aleshin and Tobias Hegewald also on the podium. The second race was won by Julien Jousse, with Kazim Vasiliauskas and Mirko Bortolotti also on the podium. Only 24 cars competed at the event, after Henry Surtees' fatal accident at Brands Hatch left a vacant slot that was unfilled.
The 2009 Oschersleben Formula Two round was the sixth round of the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship season. It was held on 5 and 6 September 2009 at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben at Oschersleben, Germany. The first race was won by Andy Soucek, with Mirko Bortolotti and Kazim Vasiliauskas also on the podium. The second race was won by Mikhail Aleshin, with Andy Soucek and Julien Jousse also on the podium.
The 2009 Catalunya Formula Two round was the eighth and final round of the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship season. It was held on 31 October and 1 November 2009 at Circuit de Catalunya in Montmeló, just outside Barcelona, Spain. The first race was won by Andy Soucek, with Mikhail Aleshin and debutant Tristan Vautier also on the podium. The second race was also won by Soucek, with Nicola de Marco and Robert Wickens also on the podium. Edoardo Piscopo missed this round to participate in the first round of 2009–10 GP2 Asia Series season in Abu Dhabi. His slot was filled by Formula Palmer Audi driver Vautier. Carlos Iaconelli also missed out on the round, due to flu.
The 2010 Silverstone Formula Two round was the first round of the 2010 FIA Formula Two Championship season. It was held on 18 August 2009 at the old configuration of the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, England. Pole position for first race was secured by Jolyon Palmer. Philipp Eng set his fastest lap in second qualifying.
The 2010 Marrakech Formula Two round was the second round of the 2010 FIA Formula Two Championship season. It was held on May 1, 2010 and May 2, 2010 at the Marrakech Street Circuit, Morocco.
The 2010 Monza Formula Two round is the third round of the 2010 FIA Formula Two Championship season. It will be held on May 22, 2010 and May 23, 2010 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Italy.
James Cole is a British racing driver from Southport, Merseyside. He made his British Touring Car Championship debut in 2013.
Antonio Giovinazzi is an Italian racing driver currently competing in Formula One for Alfa Romeo Racing. He was the 2015 FIA Formula 3 European Championship runner-up and raced with Prema in the 2016 International GP2 Series, again finishing runner-up with five wins and eight overall podiums. Giovinazzi was chosen by Scuderia Ferrari to be their third and reserve driver for the 2017 season. He made his competitive debut for Sauber at the 2017 Australian Grand Prix, replacing the injured Pascal Wehrlein. He also replaced Wehrlein at the following Chinese Grand Prix as Wehrlein continued his recovery. Giovinazzi signed a contract to race full-time for Alfa Romeo Racing in 2019.
Richard Bradley is a British racing driver. Bradley currently resides at Bangkok and raced under Singaporean racing license in Formula BMW Pacific and in the All-Japan Formula Three Championship.
The 2014–15 FIA Formula E season was the inaugural season of a new FIA championship for electrically powered cars. It began on 13 September 2014 at Beijing in China and finished on 28 June 2015 in London after eleven races. Nelson Piquet Jr. came first in the overall standings, and so became the first ever Formula E champion.
The 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship season was the third season of the FIA World Endurance Championship auto racing series, co-organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO). The series was open to Le Mans Prototypes and grand tourer-style racing cars from four ACO categories. World Championship titles were awarded for Le Mans Prototypes drivers and for LMP1 manufacturers, and several World Endurance Cups and Endurance Trophies were also awarded. The eight race series began in April at the Silverstone Circuit and concluded in November at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace.
Antonio Fuoco is a professional Italian racing driver who currently serves as a development driver for the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One team. He previously competed in Formula 2 for Charouz Racing System, and was a former member of the Ferrari Driver Academy.
Anthoine Hubert was a French professional racing driver. He was the 2018 GP3 Series champion. He died, aged 22, following an accident during the feature race of the 2019 Spa-Francorchamps FIA Formula 2 round at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
The 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship is the fifty-third season of the second-tier of Formula One feeder championship and also third season under the moniker of FIA Formula 2 Championship, a motor racing championship for Formula 2 cars that is sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). It is an open-wheel racing category that serves as the second tier of formula racing in the FIA Global Pathway. The category is scheduled to be run in support of the 2019 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
