The 2009 World Football Challenge was the first edition of the World Football Challenge, an exhibition international club association football competition featuring football clubs from Europe and North America, which has been held first in summer of 2009. Chelsea was the champions.

Contents

Format

In 2009, each team played the other three teams in the tournament once in a round-robin tournament format, with each game played at a neutral venue in the United States. Chelsea emerged as the World Football Challenge champion for 2009. The following four clubs participated in the 2009 tournament: [2] [3] [4]

Clubs received one point for each goal scored in regulation time (up to three goals per game). Clubs earned three points for a win that does not go into penalty kicks. After 90 minutes of play, if the match was tied, each team received one point and the winner of the penalty kicks received an additional point. The team with the highest overall number of points determined the World Football Challenge champion. [5]

The 2011 World Football Challenge was the second World Football Challenge event, a series of friendly association football matches played in Canada and the United States in July and August.

The 2012 World Football Challenge was the third World Football Challenge event, a series of friendly soccer matches played in Canada and the United States in July and August. The series opened on July 18. The opening match was between the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer (MLS) and Chelsea of the English Premier League, which Chelsea won 4–2. Real Madrid, who had won the equivalent tournament the previous year, were the only team to win all their matches in normal play.

The 2014 AFC Challenge Cup was the fifth and the final edition of the AFC Challenge Cup, an international football competition for Asian Football Confederation (AFC) member nations that are mainly categorized as "emerging countries" in the now defunct Vision Asia programme. It took place from 19 to 30 May 2014. The winner, Palestine, qualified to the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

The 2013 International Champions Cup was an exhibition association football tournament played in Spain and the United States. It began on Saturday, July 27 and culminated on Wednesday, August 7, 2013. This tournament replaced the World Football Challenge and was staged mainly throughout the United States, and with one match in Valencia, Spain. The participating teams were LA Galaxy of the United States, Real Madrid and Valencia of Spain, Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan of Italy, and Chelsea and Everton of England. In the United States, Fox Soccer televised 11 of 12 matches live, and Fox Sports broadcast one match live on August 3. ESPN Deportes televised all matches live on TV and on WatchESPN in Spanish.

The 2014 Inter Island Cup was the final edition of the Indonesian Inter Island Cup, the football pre-season tournament of Indonesia. The date of the tournament was from 18 January 2014 to 1 February 2015. The final round was postponed to an unknown time because the police didn't give permission, concerning the vicious rivalries between the club's supporters.

The 2014 International Champions Cup was a friendly association football tournament played in Canada and the United States. It began on July 24 when Olympiacos defeated Milan 3–0 at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario and ended on August 4 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. This tournament followed the 2013 edition and was staged throughout the United States, with one match held in Canada. The participating teams were Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United of England; Milan, Inter Milan and Roma of Italy; Olympiacos of Greece; and defending champions Real Madrid of Spain. Manchester United won the tournament, having beaten Liverpool 3–1 in the final.

The 2021–22 UEFA Youth League UEFA Champions League Path began on 14 September and concluded on 8 December 2021. A total of 32 teams competed in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League Path to decide 16 of the 24 places in the knockout phase of the 2021–22 UEFA Youth League.

The 2022–23 UEFA Champions League knockout phase began on 14 February with the round of 16 and ended on 10 June 2023 with the final at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, to decide the champions of the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League. A total of 16 teams competed in the knockout phase.
