The ASEAN Championship, currently known as the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup for sponsorship reasons, is the biannual football tournament organized by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) for men's national teams in Southeast Asia.
The Malaysia national football team represents Malaysia in international football and is governed by the Football Association of Malaysia. The national team is recognised by FIFA as the successor of the defunct Malaya national football team which was founded for the 1963 Merdeka Tournament one month before the institution of Malaysia. The team is officially nicknamed Harimau Malaya in reference to the Malayan Tiger. Former player Mokhtar Dahari is one of the top goal scorers in international history.
The Singapore national football team represents Singapore in the senior men's international football. It is organised by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), the governing body of football in Singapore, which is affiliated with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the regional ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The team's colours are red and white. Singapore are colloquially known as "The Lions", an animal of prominent symbolic nature to the country. Singapore has one of the oldest national teams in Asia, with the FAS being the oldest football association in the continent itself.
The Timor-Leste national football team, recognized as Timor-Leste by FIFA, is the national team of Timor-Leste and is controlled by the Federação de Futebol de Timor-Leste (FFTL). They became a member of FIFA on 12 September 2005.
Radojko "Raddy" Avramović is a Serbian retired football coach who played as a goalkeeper. Avramović most notably played for Croatian club Rijeka and English club Notts County as well as internationally for Yugoslavia. During his managerial career, Avramović was most notably a long-term manager of Singapore national team, being widely regarded as the most successful coach leading Singapore. He also briefly managed Myanmar and Kuwait national teams.

In 2011, Safee became the first Malaysian to play in the Indonesia Super League with Pelita Jaya.
Safiq bin Rahim is a Malaysian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Malaysian Super League club Johor Darul Ta'zim. He is also a former member of the Malaysia national team. Safiq is widely regarded as one of the best Malaysian midfielders of all time.

The 2020 AFF Championship was the 13th edition of the AFF Championship, the football championship of nations affiliated to the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), the 7th and the last edition under the name AFF Suzuki Cup.
The 2020 AFF Championship Final was the final of the 2020 AFF Championship. It was played between Indonesia and Thailand in two legs, both played at the National Stadium, Kallang, Singapore. The first leg was held on 29 December 2021 and the second leg took place on 1 January 2022. Thailand won a record-extending sixth title 6–2 on aggregate. This was the highest-scoring AFF Championship final, which also produced a larger margin of victory than any finals before.
