The 2012–13 Eastern Kentucky Colonels basketball team represented Eastern Kentucky University during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Colonels, led by eighth year head coach Jeff Neubauer, played their home games at McBrayer Arena within Alumni Coliseum and were members of the East Division of the Ohio Valley Conference. They finished the season 25–10, 12–4 in OVC play to finish in second place in the East Division. They advanced to the semifinals of the OVC tournament where they lost to Murray State. [1] They were invited to the 2013 CIT where they defeated Gardner–Webb in the first round before falling in the second round to Evansville.

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels are the intercollegiate athletic teams of Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), located in Richmond, Kentucky, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the NCAA Division I ranks, primarily competing in the ASUN Conference since the 2021–22 academic year. Its football team competes in the United Athletic Conference (UAC), which starts play in 2023 as a football-only merger of the ASUN and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The Murray State Racers men's basketball program represents Murray State University in intercollegiate men's basketball. Murray State is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), having joined that conference in 2022 after 74 seasons in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Racers have played home games at the CFSB Center on their campus in Murray, Kentucky since 1998. Murray State made its 18th appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2022. Five times the Racers advanced in the tournament, most recently by defeating the University of San Francisco in 2022. In 1988, Murray State defeated NC State in the first round but lost to eventual national champion Kansas in the second round. In 2010, 22 years to the date of the 1988 win, the Racers beat Vanderbilt and lost to eventual runner-up Butler in the second round.

They finished the season 21–13, 10–6 in OVC play to finish in second place in the West Division. They lost in the quarterfinals of the OVC tournament to Morehead State. They were invited to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament where they defeated Northwestern State in the first round, USC Upstate in the second round, and Eastern Kentucky in the quarterfinals. Archibald William Hamilton is an American basketball coach and former player. He is the head men's basketball coach at Eastern Kentucky University, a position he has held since 2018. Hamilton served as the head basketball coach at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia, from 2011 to 2017. Born in Georgetown, Kentucky, he played college basketball for Wake Forest and Marshall, where he graduated in 2005.

Playing as No. 15 seed in the South region, the Colonels lost in the opening round to No. 2 seed Kentucky.
