The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election of 2013 was triggered by Kevin Aylward's announcement on October 26, 2011, that he would resign as leader following the party's result in the 2011 provincial election. [1] It was announced on December 15, 2011, that Humber Valley MHA Dwight Ball would start serving as interim leader of the party on January 3, 2012. In May 2012, the party announced the leadership convention would take place between November 15–17, 2013. [2] It was won by Dwight Ball, who had stepped down as interim leader in July 2013 to run. Background: Antle is a St. John's businessman, who was the Liberal Party of Canada's candidate in St. John's East in the 2006 federal election. [5] Antle has said he is considering running for leader, but he wants the party to push back the leadership race so that it is closer to scheduled 2015 provincial election. [6]

Danny Dumaresque

Background: Dumaresque is the former member of the House of Assembly for Eagle River, serving between 1989 and 1996. In the 1996 general election he was defeated by independent Yvonne Jones. From 2006 to 2009 he served as President of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. Dumaresque was the Liberal candidate in the district of Torngat Mountains in 2007 and the district of The Isles of Notre Dame in 2011. He was a candidate in the leadership election to replace Jones in August 2011. [9] [10]

Siobhán Coady is a Canadian businesswoman and politician who represents the riding of St. John's West in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly as a Liberal. Coady previously served as the Liberal Member of Parliament for the riding of St. John's South–Mount Pearl from 2008 to 2011. She served as Minister of Natural Resources in the Ball government. She is currently Minister of Finance and Deputy Premier in the Furey government.

She represents the district of Labrador as a member of the Liberal Party caucus. On December 2, 2015, she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs. Jones is a member of the NunatuKavummiut, an unrecognized tribal group.

Dumaresque has been a Director of NL Hydro and an outspoken critic of the Muskrat Falls hydro development. Dumaresque is founder of Labrador Gem Seafoods.

He has served as leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador from August 14, 2011, until January 3, 2012. Aylward was first elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 1985 election and served as a cabinet minister in the governments of Clyde Wells, Brian Tobin, Beaton Tulk and Roger Grimes. Aylward did not seek re-election in the 2003 election.

The 2015 Newfoundland and Labrador general election, held on November 30, 2015, elected members of the 48th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party which had governed since 2003 election, was defeated by the Liberal Party, which won a majority in the new assembly.

The 2014 Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election was prompted by Kathy Dunderdale's announcement on January 22, 2014, that she was resigning as premier and party leader. On January 24, 2014, Tom Marshall was sworn in as the 11th Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador and interim leader of the Progressive Conservative Party. Prior to the nomination deadline, three accredited candidates entered the race; Frank Coleman, Bill Barry, and Wayne Bennett. On April 3, Bennett was removed from the race while on April 17, Barry voluntarily withdrew his nomination, resulting in Frank Coleman becoming leader-designate.

Scott Reid is a Canadian politician. He was elected to represent the district of St. George's-Stephenville East in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in a 2014 by-election; in the 2015 election, he was re-elected in the new district of St. George's-Humber. He is a member of the Liberal Party.

The Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election, 2018 was held on April 27–29, 2018, to select a successor to Paul Davis who announced on October 11, 2016, that he planned to step down as leader once his replacement was elected. St. John's lawyer Ches Crosbie defeated former Health Authority CEO Tony Wakeham to become the new leader. 11,000 members joined the party during this leadership election, of which, just over 4,000 cast their ballots.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Alliance was a political party in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The party was created by former PC Party president Graydon Pelley in November 2018, following a split over the direction of the party. It was registered with Elections Newfoundland and Labrador in April 2019. In the 2019 and 2021 provincial elections the party failed to win any seats in the legislature. Pelley resigned from the party in 2023. The party was de-registered on March 30, 2023.

The 2020 Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador leadership election was held due to the announcement by Dwight Ball on February 17, 2020 that he would be resigning as Liberal Party leader and Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador effective when the party elects his successor. Provincial legislation requires that a general election must occur no more than one year following a Premier's resignation.
