The 2014 Canadian Masters Curling Championships were held from March 31 to April 6 at the Coaldale Granite Curling Club in Coaldale, Alberta.

Coaldale is a borough in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States. Initially settled in 1827, it was incorporated in 1906 from part of the former Rahn Township; it is named for the coal industry—wherein, it was one of the principal early mining centers. Coaldale is in the southern Anthracite Coal region in the Panther Creek Valley, a tributary of the Little Schuylkill River, along which U.S. Route 209 was eventually built between the steep climb up Pisgah Mountain from Nesquehoning (easterly) and its outlet in Tamaqua, approximately five miles to the west.

The Anthracite League, also referred to as the Anthracite Association, was a short-lived American football minor league comprising teams based in coal-mining towns in eastern Pennsylvania. The league lasted for just one season before folding. The teams in the league were the Coaldale Big Green, Wilkes-Barre Barons, Shenandoah Yellow Jackets, Gilberton Cadamounts, and Pottsville Maroons.
The Coaldale Big Green was an early professional football team based in Coaldale, Pennsylvania. The club played as an independent until joining the Anthracite League in 1924. After leaving the league in 1924, the team spent its 1925 season as an independent, then joined the short-lived Eastern League of Professional Football in 1926. While the most well known Anthracite League team is the Pottsville Maroons, which jumped to the National Football League in 1925 and immediately established itself as a championship contender, the most consistently successful club in the coal region was the Big Green. Coaldale won the coal region's Curran Cup in 1921, 1922 and 1923.

The Mercure Perth Masters is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament, that takes place at the Dewars Centre in Perth, Scotland. The tournament has been held in both a triple-knockout format and a round robin format. The tournament, started in 1971, and later became a part of the World Curling Tour. Curlers from outside Scotland have been dominant in this bonspiel.
The Vancouver Island Shootout was an annual curling bonspiel started in 2011 as part of the World Curling Tour. For the 2011–12 curling season, the event took place at the Juan de Fuca Curling Club in Colwood, British Columbia. The men's event was held in a triple knockout format, and the women's event was held in a round robin format. For the 2012–13 curling season and 2014–15 curling season, the event took place at the Victoria Curling Centre in Victoria, British Columbia, and both the men's and women's events were held in a triple knockout format.
