The 15th edition of the Men's FINA Water Polo World Cup was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan from August 19 to August 24, 2014. [1]
8 teams qualified for the 2014 FINA World Cup. They were split into two groups of 4 teams. After playing a Round-robin every team advanced to the quarterfinals. The best ranked team of Group A played against the fourth ranked team of Group B, the second ranked team of Group A against the third ranked team of Group B the third ranked team of Group A against the second ranked team of Group B and the fourth ranked team of Group A against the best ranked team of Group B. The winners of those quarterfinals advanced to the Semis and played out the champion while the losers of the quarterfinals competed in placement matches.
The top three teams from the previous world championship qualify, with one guest per continent (the highest-ranked team from the previous world championship). Despite finishing 7th at 2013 World Championship, Serbia received an invitation from FINA as defending European champion instead of Italia ranked 4th at 2013 World Championship

The FINA Water Polo World League was an international water polo league organized by FINA, which played annually, typically from winter through to June. League play featured continental tournaments for men and women, from which the top teams emerged to play in the championship tournament where the league champion team is crowned.
The women's water polo tournament at the 2004 Summer Olympics was contested between August 16 and August 26 at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in the Athens Olympic Sports Complex. Eight teams qualified for the Games, with Italy defeating the host nation Greece for the gold medal. The United States won the bronze medal.
The women's tournament in volleyball at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held at Capital Indoor Stadium and Beijing Institute of Technology Gymnasium from 9 to 23 August 2008.
The Slovakia men's national water polo team is the representative for Slovakia in international men's water polo. The governing body is from 2017 Slovak Swimming Federation. It was established in 1993 as the successor state of the Czechoslovakia, so all its results fully belong to it.

The 2023 Men's FINA Water Polo World Cup was the 17th edition of the tournament. It ran from 8 March to 2 July 2023. The Super final took place between 30 June and 2 July 2023 in Los Angeles, United States.
The 2023 FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup was the 18th edition of the tournament. It ran from 11 April to 25 June 2023. The Super final took place between 23 and 25 June 2023 in Long Beach, United States.
The men's tournament of water polo at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France was held from 28 July to 11 August 2024 at the Paris Aquatic Centre and Paris La Défense Arena. It was the 28th official appearance of the tournament, which was not held in 1896 and was a demonstration sport in 1904 but otherwise has been held at every Olympics. Serbia captured their third title with a win over Croatia, while the United States won bronze by defeating Hungary.
