The 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament was held at Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana from May 14 through May 18, 2014. Jackson State won their sixteenth tournament championship, and second in a row, to earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. The event was originally scheduled for LaGrave Field in Fort Worth, Texas, but was moved due to concerns about player safety. [2] [3] [4]

The double elimination tournament features the top four teams from each division, leaving one team from each division out of the field. [5] Mississippi Valley State and Southern did not qualify for the Tournament.

Seeding and format

The top four finishers in each division will be seeded one through four, with the top seed from each division facing the fourth seed from the opposite division in the first round, and so on. The teams then play a two bracket, double-elimination tournament with a one-game final between the winners of each bracket. Alabama State and Arkansas–Pine Bluff won their respective divisions and earned the top seeds. [6] [7] [8]

Desmond Russell was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. Russell was a pitcher for Jackson State, recording 11 strikeouts in the tournament. [4]

The 2012 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament took place at Lee–Hines Field, on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA from May 16 through May 20, 2012. The Prairie View A&M Panthers won their third tournament championship and earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament decides the conference baseball championship of the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference. The top four finishers in each conference division participate in a two-bracket, double-elimination tournament, most recently played at Toyota Field in Madison, Alabama, between May 19 and May 23, 2021. Carlos James is an American college baseball coach, currently serving as head coach of the Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions baseball program. He was named to that position prior to the 2011 NCAA Division I baseball season.

James Cooper is an American baseball coach and former outfielder. He played college baseball for the Grambling State Tigers from 2001 to 2004 before playing professionally from 2004 to 2006. He then served as head coach of the Grambling State Tigers (2010–2021).

The seven-match tournament will be held at the Prairie View A&M Soccer Stadium in Prairie View, Texas. The eight team single-elimination tournament will consist of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Howard Lady Bison are the defending tournament champions after defeating the Alabama State Hornets in the championship match.

2017–18 Texas Southern Tigers basketball team American college basketball season

The 2017–18 Texas Southern Tigers basketball team represented Texas Southern University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Tigers, led by sixth-year head coach Mike Davis, played their home games at the Health and Physical Education Arena in Houston, Texas as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. They finished the season 16–20, 12–6 in SWAC play to finish in a three-way tie for second place. Due to Grambling State's Academic Progress Rate violations and subsequent postseason ineligibility, they received the No. 3 seed in the SWAC Tournament where they defeated Alabama State, Prairie View A&M and Arkansas–Pine Bluff to become SWAC Tournament champions. They received the SWAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament where they defeated North Carolina Central in the First Four before losing in the First Round to Xavier.

The 2018 SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Southwestern Athletic Conference for the 2017–18 season. Tournament first round games were played at the campus of the higher seeded team on March 6. The remainder of the tournament was held on March 9 and 10, 2018 at the Delmar Fieldhouse in Houston.

2018–19 Texas Southern Tigers basketball team American college basketball season

The 2018–19 Texas Southern Tigers basketball team represents Texas Southern University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Tigers, led by first-year head coach Johnny Jones, play their home games at the Health and Physical Education Arena in Houston, Texas as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The 2019 SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament took place March 12–16, 2019. Tournament first-round games were held on campus sites at the higher seed on March 12. The remaining rounds and the semifinals and championship at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. The winner, Southern, received the Southwestern Athletic Conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament.

The 2020 Southern Jaguars football team represented Southern University in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Jaguars were led by eighth-year head coach Dawson Odums and played their home games at Ace W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as members of the West Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

The 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament was held at Toyota Field in Madison, Alabama from May 19 through May 23. Southern won the Tournament for the 17th time and earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.

2009–10 Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions mens basketball team American college basketball season

The 2009–10 Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions men's basketball team represented the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in the 2009–10 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Golden Lions, led by 2nd-year head coach George Ivory, played their home games at the K. L. Johnson Complex in Pine Bluff, Arkansas as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Despite not playing a home game until the 15th game of the season, and starting the season with 11 consecutive losses, Arkansas–Pine Bluff finished second in the SWAC regular season standings. The Golden Lions then won the SWAC Tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. After defeating Winthrop in the play-in game, the Golden Lions advanced as the No. 16 seed in the South region where they lost to No. 1 seed and eventual National champion Duke, 73–44.

The 2021 SWAC Women's Soccer Tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Southwestern Athletic Conference held November 4–7, 2021. The seven-match tournament took place at the Prairie View A&M Soccer Stadium in Prairie View, Texas. The eight-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the Alabama State Hornets, however they were unable to defend their title, losing 3–0 to the Prairie View A&M Panthers in the Semifinals. Prairie View A&M went on to win the tournament, defeating Grambling State in a penalty shoot-out in the Final. The conference tournament title was the second in the history of the Paririe View A&M women's soccer program, both of which have come under head coach Sonia Curvelo. As tournament champions, Prairie View A&M earned the SWAC's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament.

The 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament will be held place at Regions Field in Birmingham, Alabama from May 25 through May 29. The winner of the tournament will earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.
