The 2016 Motul Sepang 12 Hours was the seventeenth Sepang 12 Hours race held on Sepang International Circuit on 10 December 2016. [1] The race was contested with GT3-spec cars, GTC-spec cars, GT4 (Supersport)-spec cars, MARC cars and touring cars. This was the second Sepang 12 Hours race organized by the Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO). [2] The race was also the third and final round of the inaugural Intercontinental GT Challenge.

Contents

The race was won by the Audi R8 LMS run by Audi Sport Team Phoenix. Driven by Robin Frijns, Christopher Haase and Laurens Vanthoor. The race victory saw Vanthoor win the inaugural drivers championship. Supported by third-placed teammates Pierre Kaffer, René Rast and Markus Winkelhock, Audi won the manufacturers championship.

The 2010 FIA GT3 European Championship season was the fifth season of the FIA GT3 European Championship. The season commenced on 1 May at Silverstone and ended on 10 October at Circuit Zolder. W Racing Team (WRT) is a Belgian auto racing team founded in 2009 by engineer and former head of Volkswagen Motorsport René Verbist, racing driver Vincent Vosse, and entrepreneur Yves Weerts. Between 2010 and 2022 the team campaigned Audi R8 LMSs in several international sports car series. In 2010 the team won the Belcar Drivers' and Teams' Championships, while in 2011 they won the Spa 24 Hours. In 2019 and 2020 WRT ran two Audi RS5 Turbo DTMs in the highly competitive DTM championship. The 2012 FIA GT1 World Championship was the third and final season of the SRO Group's FIA GT1 World Championship, an auto racing series for grand tourer cars. The 2012 championship, which opened to GT3 Series Grand Touring cars, featured two titles awarded to the highest scoring competitors over the course of the season: the GT1 World Championship for Drivers and the GT1 World Championship for Teams. The series underwent regulation changes in 2012 with GT3 cars replacing the GT1 category vehicles used in the previous two seasons of the World Championship. Hexis AMR, now under the title Hexis Racing, returned as the defending Teams' World Champions, while German drivers Michael Krumm and Lucas Luhr didn't return to the series to defend their Drivers' World Championships.

The season began on 9 April at Oulton Park and finished on 30 September at Donington Park, after ten rounds held over seven meetings. Motorbase Performance drivers Michael Caine and Daniele Perfetti won the GT3 category in a Porsche 997 GT3-R, Team WFR's Jody Fanin and Warren Hughes won the GT4 championship driving a Ginetta G50, while Ryan Hooker and Gary Eastwood took the GTC title in a Ferrari 458 Challenge driving for FF Corse.

The 2014 Blancpain Endurance Series season was the fourth season of the Blancpain Endurance Series. The season started on 12 April at Monza and ended on 21 September at the Nürburgring. The season featured five rounds, with each race lasting for a duration of three hours besides the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and the 1000 km Nürburgring events.

The 2015 GT Sprint Series was the third season following on from the demise of the SRO Group's FIA GT1 World Championship, the second with the designation of Blancpain Sprint Series.

The 2015 FIA GT World Cup was the race's inaugural edition and the eighth time Grand Touring (GT) sports car machinery participated in Macau's autonomous territory. On November 22, it was staged in the streets of the city as a non-championship race as part of the GT Asia Series in GT3-spec cars. The Automobile General Association Macau-China appointed the Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO) to assist in establishing a grid. The race itself consisted of two races: a 12-lap qualification race that determined the starting grid for the 14-lap main race.

The 2017 Intercontinental GT Challenge was the second season of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The season featured three rounds, starting with the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour on 5 February and concluding with the Mazda Raceway California 8 Hours on 15 October, after the SRO Motorsports Group chose to cancel the Sepang 12 Hours scheduled for 10 December, due to a lack of entries. Laurens Vanthoor was the defending drivers' champion and Audi was the defending manufacturers' champion.

The 2017 Blancpain GT Series Asia was the inaugural season of SRO Motorsports Group and Team Asia One GT Management's Blancpain GT Series Asia, an auto racing series for grand tourer cars in Asia. The races were contested with GT3-spec and GT4-spec cars.

The 2018 Intercontinental GT Challenge was the third season of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The season featured four rounds, starting with the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour on 4 February and concluding with the California 8 Hours on 28 October. Markus Winkelhock was the defending Drivers' champion and Audi was the defending Manufacturers' champion.
