Imangali Nurgaliuly Tasmagambetov is a Kazakh politician and diplomat, who is the current Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization since January 2023. He was the Kazakh Ambassador to Russia from 2017 to 2019. He was Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from 2016 to 2017 and Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan from 2014 to 2016. He was the akim of Astana from 2008 to 2014 and from 2004 to 2008, as akim of Almaty. Before that, from 2002 to 2003, he was the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the head of state of the Kazakhstan and the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The president is the holder of the highest office within the Republic of Kazakhstan. The powers of this position are described in a special section of the Constitution of Kazakhstan.
Byrganym Saryqyzy Aitimova is a Kazakh politician and diplomat who was a member of the Kazakh Senate from 2013 to 2019 and in 1996. She served as the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, Cuba, and Solomon Islands concurrently from 2007 to 2013. Prior to her appointment as UN ambassador, she was the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from 2004 to 2005 and then the Minister of Education and Science until Zhanseit Tuymenbayev replaced her on 10 January 2007. She served as Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Italy from 2002 to 2004, and ambassador to Israel from 1996 to 2002.
Presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan for the first time on 1 December 1991. Nursultan Nazarbayev was elected with 99% of the vote, based on a turnout of 88%.
Legislative elections were held in Kazakhstan on 15 January 2012. The result was a victory for the Nur Otan party, which won 83 of the 98 seats in the Mäjilis. However, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) stated that the election "did not meet fundamental principles of democratic elections." The elections marked the first time that the second-placed party would gain parliamentary seats irrespective of whether it cleared the 7% electoral threshold. Due to the Zhanaozen massacre and the resulting state of emergency there, the election was not planned to be held in Zhanaozen. However, this decision was overturned on 10 January 2012.
Nurlan Zairollauly Nigmatulin is a Kazakh politician who served as the Chairman of the Mäjilis from 22 June 2016 to 1 February 2022 and from 20 January 2012 to 3 April 2014. Prior to that, he headed the Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan, and was the first deputy chairman of Nur Otan from 2009 to 2012, and äkim of Karaganda Region from 2006 to 2009.
Snap presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan on 26 April 2015 to elect the President of Kazakhstan. This was the fifth presidential election held and second without having any formal opposition candidates. With the highest-ever nationwide turnout of 95.2%, the result was a victory for long-term incumbent President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Nur Otan who received 97.8% of the vote, the largest since 1991, thus winning a fifth term in office while his closest challenger, Turgyn Syzdyqov, received only 1.6% of the votes.
Legislative elections were held in Kazakhstan on 20 March 2016. The date was set by president Nursultan Nazarbayev on 20 January 2016, when he dissolved the Mäjilis after it had requested dissolution on 13 January, with the reason cited being the economic crisis caused by low oil prices. Normally, the term of the Mäjilis would have expired in fall of 2016.

Bakhytzhan Abdiruly Sagintayev is a Kazakh politician who was a Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, from 9 September 2016 until his resignation on 21 February 2019. He served as the Äkim of Almaty from 28 June 2019 until he was replaced by Erbolat Dosaev on 31 January 2022 following the 2022 Kazakh unrest which greatly affected the city.

Dania Madiqyzy Espaeva is a Kazakh politician and a member of the Mäjilis serving since 24 March 2016. Her 2019 election campaign made her the first woman to be a Kazakh presidential candidate.
Senate elections were held in Kazakhstan on 1 October 2014 during the 5th convocation of the Kazakh Senate. The elections were held following a decree by then-president Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The Executive Office of the President or the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan is an executive office of the President of Kazakhstan, established in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 2565 of Nursultan Nazarbayev on 20 October 1995. It is formed by the President, to whom the staff reports directly.
The Sagintayev Government was the 10th composition of the Government of Kazakhstan under the leadership of Prime Minister Bakhytzhan Sagintayev. It was formed after Sagintayev's predecessor, Karim Massimov was appointed as a head of the National Security Committee on 8 September 2016. President Nursultan Nazarbayev nominated Sagintayev, who served as the First Deputy under Massimov's government to be the new prime minister. He was confirmed by the Parliament the following day on 9 September. Some speculated that Sagintayev was a close ally to Nazarbayev's daughter Dariga, and the reason for a cabinet reshuffle was to make way for Nazarbayev's succession after the neighboring country of Uzbekistan faced a political uncertainty over President Islam Karimov's death which occurred on 2 September.

The Mäjilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the 5th convocation was the legislative term of the lower house Mäjilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan which was held from 20 January 2012, until its dissolution on 20 January 2016. The convocation was succeeded by the 6th Mazhilis on 25 March 2016.

The 23rd Extraordinary Assembly of People of Kazakhstan Session was held on 21 March 2016 at the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation in Astana following the 2016 legislative elections. From there, 372 of 446 Assembly of People of Kazakhstan (QHA) members took part in voting for its nine nominees to the Mazhilis of which the seats were reserved to. As a result, nine new members were elected whom were: Sauytbek Adrahmanov, Vladimir Bozhko, Natalya Zhumadildaeva, Roman Kim, Narine Mikaelyan, Akhmed Muradov, Shaimardan Nurumov, Yuriy Tymoshenko, and Shakir Khakhazov.
