The 2017 Joan Gamper Trophy was the 52nd edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy. Spanish side and hosts Barcelona faced Brazilian side Chapecoense at the Camp Nou in Barcelona. [1] This marked Chapecoense's first ever appearance in the Joan Gamper Trophy, as a tribute to the 71 Chapecoense players and staff who lost their lives after the LaMia Flight 2933 tragedy in La Unión, Colombia, on 28 November 2016. [2]

The surviving Chapecoense players, Alan Ruschel, Jakson Follmann, and Neto, were all involved in the match. Alan Ruschel was the starting captain, and Jakson Follmann, accompanied by Neto, did a ceremonial kickoff. [4]

The history of Futbol Club Barcelona goes from the football club's founding in 1899 and up to current time. LaMia Flight 2933 Fatal Colombian air crash involving Chapecoense football team

LaMia Flight 2933 was a charter flight of an Avro RJ85, operated by LaMia, that on 28 November 2016 crashed near Medellín, Colombia, killing 71 of the 77 people on board. The aircraft was transporting the Brazilian Chapecoense football squad and their entourage from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, to Medellín, where the team was scheduled to play at the 2016 Copa Sudamericana Finals. One of the four crew members, three of the players, and two other passengers survived with injuries.
