The 2017 season was the 110th season in which the Richmond Football Club participated in the VFL/AFL. It ended with Richmond the premiers of the competition, the first time they had achieved it since 1980.

Reserves

The 2017 season marked the fourth consecutive year the Richmond Football club ran a stand-alone reserves team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Richmond senior and rookie-listed players who were not selected to play in the AFL side were eligible to play for the team alongside a small squad of VFL-only listed players.

The team qualified for their first final series since being formed in 2014 and subsequently won final's against Collingwood, Casey and Box Hill to qualify for their first stand alone reserves grade grand final since 1997. They placed runners up after losing 11.8 (74) to 10.10 (70) to Port Melbourne.

Senior listed player Jacob Townsend won the J. J. Liston Trophy as the competition's best and fairest player. [19]

Jacob Townsend is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Gold Coast Suns in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played 28 matches over four seasons with the Greater Western Sydney Giants and 20 matches over four seasons at Richmond. He won an AFL premiership with Richmond in 2017 while also winning the VFL's J. J. Liston Trophy that season during matches played with Richmond's reserves side, before winning a VFL premiership with the same reserves side in 2019. At the conclusion of the 2019 season, he was signed to the Essendon Football Club, and was delisted after one season, before being rookie-listed again, this time by Gold Coast.

Kamdyn McIntosh is a professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is two time premiership player, having played in grand final victories with Richmond in 2017 and 2020. He was picked up off the waiver late in the 2022 season, finishing off the year with the Richmond outfit. He's the only known player in the history of the AFL to wear knee length skins.

Lambert was drafted to Richmond in the 2015 rookie draft and made his debut for the club in round 1 of the 2015 season. He made his debut in round 1 of the 2017 season and became an AFL premiership player that same year. In 2019 he won a VFL premiership while playing for Richmond's reserves side. At the end of the 2019 season he was traded to St Kilda in exchange for a late third-round draft selection. In his first year at St Kilda, he led the club's goalkicking tally, placed second in the best and fairest and was nominated to the extended All-Australian squad.

In 2018 he won the VFL's Mark and Goal of the Year awards while playing reserves grade football. Liam Baker is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He played junior representative football with West Perth in the WAFL and represented Western Australia at national championships at under 18 level. After being undrafted in 2016, Baker then played senior WAFL football with Subiaco. Baker was drafted by the Richmond tigers in the 2018 rookie draft and made his AFL debut in round 19, 2018. He was an AFL premiership player with Richmond in 2019 and 2020, and in 2020 was named to the AFL's 22Under22 team, recognising the best young players in the league. In 2022, Baker was presented the AFLPA most Courageous in the AFL award. The captain of the Richmond Football Club, Dylan Grimes, presented the award to Baker, with Patrick Dangerfield announcing the achievement.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jack Higgins (Australian footballer)</span> Australian rules footballer

Jack Higgins is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played 43 games over three seasons at Richmond. As a junior Higgins was named All Australian at the 2017 AFL Under 18 Championships and won the Morrish Medal as the best player in the Victorian junior state league, the TAC Cup. He was drafted by Richmond with the last pick of the first round in the 2017 AFL national draft and made his debut for the club in round 3 of the 2018 season. In his debut season he earned the AFL Goal of the Year award and placed fourth in the league Rising Star award. Higgins missed a significant part of the 2019 season after undergoing surgery for a brain condition. In the 2020/21 off-season, he was traded to St Kilda in a multipiece deal that principally involved a second round draft pick.

The 2019 season was the 112th season in which the Richmond Football Club participated in the VFL/AFL. The season ended with the club winning its 12th league premiership.

He was drafted by Richmond with the 43rd pick in 2018 AFL draft and made his debut in round 4 of the 2019 season.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Derek Eggmolesse-Smith</span> Australian rules football player

Derek Eggmolesse-Smith is an Australian rules footballer who last played for the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). After being overlooked in the 2016 draft, he became the first player ever to be signed by the club under the Next Generation Academy rules when he was contracted in November 2017. He made his AFL debut for the club in round 16 of the 2019 season and later that year became a VFL premiership player while playing reserves grade football for the club. He was de-listed at the end of the 2020 season but re-contracted ahead of the 2021 season after training with the team during the summer. He was not offered a new contract by the Richmond Football Club at the conclusion of the 2021 season.

The 2020 season was the 113th season in which the Richmond Football Club has participated in the VFL/AFL and the first season in which it participated in the AFL Women's competition.

The 2021 season was the 114th season in which the Richmond Football Club has participated in the VFL/AFL and the second season in which it participated in the AFL Women's competition.

The 2022 season is the 115th season in which the Richmond Football Club has participated in the VFL/AFL and the third season in which it participated in the AFL Women's competition.
